@tetawa..plenty of advice here...I have both ,bolt and semi savage HMR 17s...love em both ..the tikka, local comments are justified ,it is short in the stock, but that is easily fixed.....

For the job this round was designed for,its a a beauty,.....you can talk ballistics all day ..slower than the 223(Indeed,but still bloody quick)...Savage,I believe have manufactured a great product. My only issue, the early rifles had issues with the Mag(bolt action)not fitting snug into the cavity.....they have fixed this....

    The 223 is still impressive

I believe we’ve discussed this before, but for all-around,one rifle does all, especially on the small stuff ,Hare issues etc,..the 223 is magic

What's the deal with 22 k hornet? Is it a case of getting a 22 hornet and roaming the chamber, then fire forming 22 hornet brass?

Yes, but if you want to get the best out of it, make sure your rifle is not built on a rinfire action like many Hornets are.

Talking through my butt, I'd put my money on the .22 Hornet doing better suppressed supersonic than the .17HMR suppressed supersonic. Especially if you go for as heavy (and therefore slower) a pill as you can, with a nice long ogive + boat tail.

I've had many people think mine was a suppressed 22lr. Reloading makes it about the same price as 17HMW/22WMR.

Went with the semi after doing a bit of research and discussing with owners of them.

that SHOULD be quiet indeed....the crack is the bullet breaking sound barrier, less powder must mean less bang all things being equal.

You want the rifle as a tool to do a specific job and it will it's plastic, Parkerised steel and alloy, certainly not a rifle that will be a heirloom.
Ammunition cost is comparable to 223 but shopping around may get you a better deal.
There is a review in the guns and hunting magazine on it, and I had the opportunity to use it duri g that trial so can vouch that it's not marketing hype.
I owned a Rossi briefly and it was a lemon. had a 50% strike rate igniting the primers. but it was surprisingly accurate. I wont be giving up my savage .17 HMR bolt action for their semi but then I don't get to shoot too many hares these days.

Not that great, the owners had chased hell out of them on four wheelers and shotguns for the total kill of 2 before I had arrived. The only thing it did was spread them around the district. Will go back when it's warmer and they have settled again.
