Sorry meant 20 Practical.
Think the claw has or had one.

It's great, I have a can on mine and it's like shooting an airgun; a super lethal airgun at that :-)
What would your reason be for choosing this over 204 Ruger?
Seems the only advantage it has is it's easy to make brass, but I didn't think 204 Ruger brass was overly difficult to find.
Seems you may lose a little velocity too.
Also have one on the R8, cool wee cal.
Brass is 223 so cheaper and better selection (Lapua)than 204.Easy to reload. Can also get simliar velocities with good barrel life? Hard part is a 20 Practical is not that common in NZ a few shooters have the 20 Tactical. Seen some very tight groups with the Practical and if re-barrelling a 223 gives another option.
Yes theres plenty of brass for the 204 and it's a factory rifle. 20 Practical is a build/gunsmith job.
Hey Redbang what can you running and who built yours/whats the stock, action, barrel etc? Bet it would do some good damage on those South Island bunnies!
Tikka, rebarreled from 223, plastic stock. Gunworks did barrel and can. Running 32gr vmax @ 3900+. Half inch groups are the norm. Wacked a few wallabies, wabbits and hares with it, stops 'em dead ! Really nice to shoot, virtually no recoil to speak of :-)
Ultramatch barrel
Mine is a 20 Tactical. Great calibre, built on a Tikka 595 Continental Varminter. 24" True Flite barrel and Gunworks supressor. Built by Tony Titheridge. 40gr vmax at 3,900+, 1/2 MOA 5 shot accuracy generally.
I went for the Tac over the Prac mainly due to brass. I also had a 223 that I loaded for so didn't want to have brass mix up's. Also, factory (Lapua made) 20 Tac brass is available from Dakota Arms. I paid less for it per 100 than what I would have had to pay for 223 Lapua brass, and its just load and shoot.
I had a 204 Ruger prior to building my 20 Tac. The Tac gives up nothing on the Ruger in terms of velocity and accuracy, has better brass, and burns a couple grains less powder.
Thanks guys for the info. and nice to see that you like the 20's!
Redbang is your Ultramatch barrel from True Flite?
Yep
This dude knows a bit about them.
Warren’s 4200 FPS “.20 Practical” within AccurateShooter.com
Yes, that article inspired me to get mine. Blew a few primers trying to get 4200 though ! Gave that idea up. . . .
Thanks TeRei-yes have read this on the net and it got me all wanting! If only I had a Tikka 595 that needed re-barreling...Guess thats what The Claw did...good on ya. I heard that True Flite are not turing out as good a barrel as they used too and don't know if thats true? Guy at Hamills in Tauranga passed the comment. Guess he is wrong as Redbang & The Claw would not have use True Flite if that was the case?
What primers you using Redbang? CCI br4?
Theres valcun.
As for reaming it cost me $200-250 one of those numbers so I guess most gun smiths will be similar
A great base for this, worth a look at in your existing rifle.

I do remember reading about that and being very impressed. The velocities you show are almost hard to believe.
Is it just as easy as necking up 204 brass and thats it? Can't be arsed fire forming or neck turning.
Is Norma your best bet for brass? Lapua doesn't do 204 brass does it?
How much would it cost for dies and to have my barrel reamed?
It's funny that you used the 53gr Vmax and the 75gr Amax, as there are exactly what I would have chosen.
What powder where you using for those two loads?
Yep just a straight neck up.
Mag needs extending, no drama with the Tikka.
Have used BM2 with the 53s & 2206H or 2208 with the 75s.
Trying 80 Amax & 90 Bergers tomorrow in a new 7 twist.
I'm trying RP, Hornady & Norma brass out at the moment, doesn't seem to be much in it at this early stage.
Pm coming.
Have a barrel, bullets and brass bit of ammo for 20 practical in the sale part.
I bought a M595 off of a forum member, fitted a 26" Bartlein, chambered it in 204 Ruger and I love it. Its on page 500 of the "show your rig I think as posted by Jaco Goosen.
Maybe I'll go for the Tac or the Prac next time.
4200... ha..I could do that with 40g in my 20 BR!
mind you barrel only lasted 1200 rounds!
Ouch.....swapped my 204 Howa Varminters barrel after 4000 shots.
(Was considering the 20 BR.....but you cured me from that idea hahaha)
