    Which .22?

    Hi Guys and Girls,

I am keen on getting a new .22lr to replace my 10/22. I am after a bolt action with a little more sophistication and class. It needs to shoot well as I found the 10/22 frustrating, I couldn't group better than 10 shots into a golf ball size area at 50m. I can shoot far better than that and have experience shooting from .22 up to 7mm RM.

I'd prefer stainless due to my tendency to be rough on gear but think I might struggle to do classy and sophisticated in stainless. Budget is about 1k but if I can get something nice cheaper then that's even better. Not in a major hurry so if you have suggestions on what to keep an eye out for then let me know. Likewise if you've got something in the safe that fits the bill then I'm interested in that too.

    Cheers,
    Adam

Hard to go past CZ452, happy as with mine, nice timber stock and nice blued metal work. Quite a classy look feel and shoot really well.

Nah CZ 452/ BRNO 2E or find a 64 action Anshutz is the next level up from a 10/22 in a bolt action.

Upgrade from a 10/22 would be a Kidd or Volquartzen for Semi's. Which would be a fingernail sized group at 50 or ragged hole at 25m

    CD.

    @Dorkus

I used to have a rough as guts Toz17 that would hit a 50c piece every time at 50m.

My mates had them too and they all were pretty ugly ( especially the mates ) but accurate.

    Cheers

    Hahahaha

    True

    Sometimes class doesn't equal accurate.

Kinda like that old ugly single shot 22 you like to use at the Tararua shoot.

Seems to get the job done nicely.

    Cheers

Yeah Nah - Slight improvement but is like difference between a Anshutz 64 v 54 action and not by as much as a Kidd or Volquartsen bro...

Go for the Toz 17. Ugly but really accurate. Ive had one for 48years and put many many thousands of rounds thru it. Can get them on trade me cheap.

I agree Pete. Three successive groups at 50m with cheap 22lr subs and a 4x32 Nikko scope. From someone that has never been taught to shoot.

Serious Shooters have a special on at the moment: New CZ455, threaded, kilwell suppressor, kilwell (cheapie I guess) scope $899 inc for the whole shebang. I know the 455 isn't the 452/Mod2/E etc, but it's not too bad. Only issue is that it comes in this slightly odd blonde stock with black stipled sections. Could strip and stain I guess.

[EDIT: It's a "NZ edition" apparently]
