    223 projectiles

    Afternoon all
I need to get some more bullets for my 223.
It gets used for everything from bunnies up to pig's and deer.
I'm wanting something not too expensive. Thinking 55grain but open to using heavier bullets. Any recommendations of what and where to buy?

    Cheers

You used to be able to get bulk 55gr soft point flat base hornady off Bill @ Rusa for quite cheap

Yup the Hornady 55grn SP is a cheap but good all round projectile.
I have bought them off Bill recently. Pretty sure he has the best deal on them.

I used a 55 gr Sierra (#1345) alot on Fallow & Sika with great results.

Recently switched to a Sierra 63 gr SMP (#1370) which has also been very good.

I tried the 55 gr Hornady projectiles and used them alot on goats, Fallow and i also found them hard to beat in terms of cost and performance.

I wouldn't hesitate in using any of the above for what you want to do.

what you use is dependent on the twist ratio of your rifle

I used 65gr game kings in my AR. They shot very well. I had a big bag of unknown projectiles that I think might have been Hornady. They weren't as good as the Sierra's but good enough. Those same reloads seem to shoot even better in my Howa mini so I'll go with the Hornady.
    Thanks for the advice.

got given a few hornady bulk pack rounds that use the 55grn pill.......have to say Im very impressed with terminal preformance...almost enough to sway me away from the 50grn stuff I normally load.

its not totally silly to grab a sample pack of 50grn ttsx and keep a few in your pocket incase you do see something bigger....Mate those things really make the wee rifles into giant killers.

    Yip Barnes projectiles.
    Pricey but good stuff
Expand well, and pretty much always exit.
    That said, I use Hornady 55gr SP’s.

Wouldn't the point of impact change with different bullets? That's why I hoping to find a good all rounder. One load for everything scenario.

    Yes
Thats why I use the one load for everything I shoot at, paper, rabbits, goats.
And the load I have works, so why change.
That said, I’ve got some 53gr hollow points I’d like to try, purely in the name of science !
