    240 Wby / 6mm-284

    Hi guys,

Have an itch for a swift 6mm and was thinking a 240 wby might be hard to get hold of.

So the 6-284 looks like an easier build and should match the ballistics.

Does anyone have experience with either of these?

    Thanks.

No experience, but order yourself a second and third barrel while you at it

Hi there, I've had a couple of 6mm284's.First one I built on a ruger action which my eldest son still has & uses hunting down the SI & the one I have is built on an older Sako L61R which has a Kreiger 10" twist barrel on it.
If you want to be able to shoot flat with low recoil they are quite impressive! I avoid the bigger kickers now due to an old shoulder injury, used to have the Sako chambered in 3006AI which was a good cartridge but I wore the barrel out & my shoulder was suffering a bit so went the lighter bullet moving quick direction.
Barrel wear will be a problem if you do long runs of shots (heat very quickly) or dont clean well & regularly the barrel.
First one (ruger) would have had 1500x shots through it now & it still shoots .5" no problem.
I shoot 95gr or 105gr Targex in mine & ADI2217 powder with those bullet weights. If I drop down to 70-80gr bullets its ADI2213.
If you build one dont go with too short an action or you will have trouble with magazine lengths & throat distances etc
    Cheers

And go for a fast twist barrel to use the heavier projectiles, 105-108 range.

Sorry didnt see your question but yes email is targex10.1@gmail.com.
The 6mm284 makes an awesome varmint rifle to but wouldnt want to put too many rounds through in a hurry.
Be the ultimate for long range wallabies!
