    .270 or 25-06

I know people on these forums love these posts so I thought I'd start one. It's not really a one calibre vs another thread, I'm more interested in peoples experiences with both calibres, not recommendations of one calibre over the other.
    Any opinions/experiences appreciated

Have had both a long time go. Brought a new Sako .270 in 1986 and man was it heavy but otherwise a good gun. Worked as advertised, Boom / Flop but did I mention it was heavy. Then found a S/H Remington 700 Mountain Rifle in 25/06 with a 25 inch barrel. Sold the Sako and brought it. far and away the best centrefire I have owned for shooting. Dot used on everything from Rabbits to what ever.
All my hunting was in Southen Alps (Rakaia and Rangitata )

Sold it in a fit of stupidity cause i just had to have a 7-08, Always regretted it and sold that to help fund the first house.

All those with dogs waiting no longer fear death. Those with many dogs waiting even welcome it in it's time.

I've used .270 quite a bit. When I got into handloading I realised that it was a really stupid cartridge.

270 may become "usefull" if the new pills pushing the BC work well enough

I had a 270 for about 3 months Remington 700 B&C mountain rifle I probably used half a packet of bullets thru it, came to the conclusion I didnt like remingtons or 270s
ended up with a tikka in 280 that Im happy enough with, nothing fancy but throws high BC pills accurately which is all I want

If game can tell the difference between a 270 and 280 they are smarter than I thought.
Far more rifles available in the former too.

"If game can tell the difference between a 270 and 280 they are smarter than I thought"-I agree with that guy

"peoples experiences with both calibres"= deer died when I shot them with 2506, out to 300m and deer died with 270 when I shot them out to 300m, id weigh in favour of 270, for the just in case factor...

anything above 243 is gonna be dead deer medicine out to 400m if you are up to it.

everyman and his dog has their own particular fav, and we'll be hearing about them for weeks to come im guessin

I actually did when I was looking for my first deer rifle. "Less drop for the long shots" they say. Nobody thought of wind.
