    3-12 varipower scope ?

Ok, so I’m looking to upgrade the scope on my 223
For the past couple of years its had a no name 3-12 x 50 I bought off phillipo
Don’t want to spend more than $600.00
I use the rifle for rabbits and sika.
    Prefer a 1” tube.
    Suggestions ?
    VX Freedom ?
    Vortex ?

Please don’t suggest a Khales, or Swarovski, I’d love one, but $600 won’t cut it.
He nui to ngaromanga, he iti to putanga.

You depart with mighty boasts, but you come back having done little.
Sounds like a typical hunting trip !

Nikon Monarch 3-12x42 ticks the boxes.

... if you can find one.

If you can be bothered going through the import route, suggest the 3-12x42 Weaver Grand Slam.
I imported mine from Brownells for about $550NZD landed. Optics are right up there with the likes of Leupold VX3i and Zeiss Conquest.
Nikon Monarch has great optics too, is very similar to the Weaver in many aspects, and should fall under your price limit. It has longer eye relief than the Weaver, but more tunnel vision effect.

I can highly recommend the Nikko Dimond 4-16.
I have three of them - two on CZ rimfires (.22WMR and .17HMR) and one on my air rifle.
FFP is great as your drop table will work no mater that magnification you set, but if you are into dialling, you can do that too. The reticle is will sized for the magnification range. Its as fine as you want to go on 4x, and not excessive on 15x. I tend to shoot in the 6-8x range for most of my hunting.
Glass is excellent for the price, and having reticle illumination means that once you change over to spot lighting, the reticle is supper easy to see.
I picked mine up for $500 each but i think they retail for around the $600 mark.

Only down side, is they are built like a tank, and as such are not the lightest scope on the market.

Twelve power on a 223 is all you need but yes has to be good - great glass. If you'll not worried about dialing than maybe a nice second hand 4-14 VX3 or Zeiss would be a great option
