    300 win mag v 300 wsm

found this useful bit of info on the net
using the old 3006 as the base we find that
300 win mag uses 37 percent more powder for a 13 percent gain,,its called diminishing return

300 wsm uses 14 percent more powder for an 11 percent gain,on average it does this using 14 less grains of powder

why does the human race still get up in the morning and argue facts

why does the human race still get up in the morning and believe in a god

and 3006ai reduces the gains further again. Still like my 300WSM though - perfect for 180gn pills.

You are right there, the fact you point out is only say which cartridge is more efficient than the other.
You forgot one thing, people want performance more than efficient. When most factory 300wsm rifle stuck at 2850fts with 208gn projectiles the factory 300win will do close 3k with the same projectiles. By the way, I shoot a 300 wsm and love it, because a tikka with short magazine haha

I dont reload and find its relatively easy to do a deal on the 300wsm.
Winchester accubonds 180 grain for less than $70 a pkt.
Shooting 2970 through a tikka veil with Z6 scope
DPT suppressor and a 14 year old can shoot it comfortably . Never found it lacking performance with longest shot being a fallow at a measured 640 yards.

    Greetings All,
The 300 WSM is a smaller case running at higher pressure which gives similar performance with less powder. You could load the 300 Win Mag to higher pressure to get even more velocity although I wonder why you would. But then I don't have any 30 calibre magnums belted or not which I don't see that changing any time soon. Each to their own though.

    add on
this from a load data page
will use the speer 165 gr sp across the board

    300 rum rl 25 ,,97 gr=3279fps
    300 wtby mag rl 25,,89.0C gr=3258
    30-378wtby rl19,,103 gr=3285
    300 win mag rl 17,,72.5gr=3202
    300 h&h rl 19,,67 gr=3048
    300wsm rl 17,,68 gr=3217

looking from top to bottom the 300 rum is using 29 more gr to achieve 61 fps seconds advantage over the 300wsm
what im saying is that the manufacturers are pulling the wool over peoples eyes by bringing out all the latest bells n whistles

the wsm runs at 65th psi,,same as the 270,

nah...just use .308 and walk tiny bit closer to begin with.....
Graham Henry was doing review of single bakail 7.62x39mm years back and his point was as relevant today as it was back then..... the difference between cartridges amounts to 50 yards or thereabouts per jump in size.
Dusty...you well know just how effectively a small case propelled projectile kills if you get in close....it kills the same as the same projectile propelled by bigger case from further away...unless you trying to shoot further, the bigger case is wasted...

which is exzacahry my point...250 yards closer and the 308 will do same job.....350 yards closer and the 30/30 or 7.62x39 will do same job.....
unless you ating to poke out really heavy cartridge or shoot those EXTRA 250 yards...you are ...now what was term you used???deminishing returns.
