    Glendronach ‘allardice’ is a favourite.
As mentioned above, lagavulin 16 is also very good, as is the 8yr old version.

It’s not the bottle it’s the shit inside that costs

I reckon a 12yo Cao ilia edges ahead of the Lagavulin... both good.

+1 for Caol Ila. A bit of peat smoke but nicely balanced Lagavulin is great but a heavy hitter, so unless you know he’s into peated whisky, stick to Highland as someone else has said. Oban 14, Aberlour, Dalmore, etc.

Or Speyside I’d you want to play it safe - Glenmorangie is super easy to drink.

Check out whiskyandmore.com. Their specials change each week… If it was me right now, I’d go for the Arran. Very approachable, not too spendy and the bottle looks cool

Or pop into Whisky Galore and try before you buy

Correction to my last post - Glenmorangie is a Highland, and Aberlour is a Speyside.

Dalwhinnie and Macallan are also good Speysides, but give me an Islay any day!

Jodhpurs, leather boots, deerstalker hat, matching tweed jacket and monocle. A fob watch but no pretentious watch gold chain -- some khaki lanyard will do for that, just to make a deliberate understatement and show you have old money.

Say, have you time to grow some lamb chops?

Jodhpurs ? Akaroa said that he had 'retired' not 'come out of the closet' !!

    Depends on what he likes.

I would go for a Highland or Sky and walk the middle ground. The peaty Islay suggestions could put him right off and you end up going hime with his rusty Baikal 12 gauge with rifled chokes .
