No we used sensible sized glasses.
If I were paying I would have everyone drinking out of thimbles.
Pity about the rifle.
Recently had a hunter who knows about fine guns. He showed me some pictures of some of his. One being a 470 nitro double.
And he gave me quite a few leads on where to source a 303.
Im trying hard to resist even looking.
This is a particularly nice 500 3" double I have at home

I think I've developed a good coping strategy for the disappointment of missing out on something you really wanted.
Buy something a lot better for less $s
And in some cases buy several more better cheaper rifles.

It has a very long fine top tang.
It's very pretty, a real looker, but not so practical for hunting.

Good thread , real click bate ….double rifles and whiskey ….well for me anyway , whiskey is all about the company you share when you are have having a dram not the cost of the bottle
I rarely buy whiskey but when I do it's a 10yr old Talisker, about, very nice and it lasts me about a year...I'm more of a bourbon bloke.

Next time you over the hill @akaroa1, try The Last Word on New Regent Street. The team there really know their stuff and have a great range. Last I had there was an 18yo Aberlour - an absolute delight. Highly recommend that sober driver though!!
Laphroaig is a decent whisky, and often a safe bet. It used to be one of the few easily available and affordable good options (I was first introduced to it at a pub called The Tappet Hen in Dunblane many moons ago), but there are loads more whiskies available now that are as good or better
Laphroaig is a popular dram,if not a bit of a fraud. It's loaded with Caramel so it looks dark,that's what people expect a peaty whisky to look like.
That sure does look nice, the pic of the rear tang and dog ears is pure porn, be nice to see a side pic of whole rifle, probably deserves its own thread
I will have both the 577-500 and 500 3" doubles out together tomorrow and I will get some more pics
Been regulating a light bullet load in the 577-500 today
135 grains of 1.5 FG has brought the 335 grain bullets together and pretty close to where the 450 grainers are regulated to
So I have a small game / practice load with less felt recoil.
And the 450s for hunting BIG game

Geez, sorry man...I just found this thread again.
OK...some folks use a sugar and water mix...throw in some yeast and let it all ferment.
But it has no flavour, and as per a 'normal' still there is no colour (a properly used still puts out a transparently clear liquid).
So now the flavour is added by a wee bottle of whatever flavour you want (whiskey, gin, etc).
For colour you add a wee bottle of a colouring agent.
Eeek...this is not proper booze. It's a travesty...but some folks like it 'cos it's quick.
My old mate had one (a Still Spirits still). It made booze for sure but it's not a proper drink...just flavoured sugar water with added colour.
I used grain for my whiskies, and molasses/raw sugar for my rum.
Anyway, these are the cheap and quick flavours, and stills...
