Hah! Theres only about three things I can write about from experience and One of them is 303.

This is Youngs oil which is water miscible like a cutting oil for Use on lathes. The idea IS, that you mix it with water and it goes into a milky emulsion. Then use it on a patch and the water droplets in it pick up the water Soluble Salts from the corrosive primer will be absorbed away . So its a more civilised alternative to "poUr boiling water down the bareII" .

The Smell is nice, distinctive, quite different from Hoppes #9 Which is fruity.

I've only seen it in a bottle not a tin.

No it doesn't. I presume it is the OLD "Youngs" formulation.

I have 5 liters of the stuff that was given to me by a collector, Steven Young rifle oil. Do you want some ?

The original verson of hoppes had oil of mirbane (nitro benzene) as an ingredient. It got pulled out when it was proved that it caused cancer with long term exposure. Perfume was added to keep the smell as close as possible.
Ah but the smell of youngs 303, real mans aftershave.!

yeah will have a look sure I have one - same as whats in the photo on here - small glass bottle - rumours it had whale oil in it - there was some later youngs in a plastic bottle but formula had changed that later stuff smelled like a diesel oil mix - will PM you if still have it I am a dedicated remington oil man / Hoppes no 9 swear by them
