30mm ring/mount options for T3

Morning all,

Waiting for two baby's to arrive so bound to the house this week - one baby boy, one new VX6.

I am after opinions or suggestions on what to consider for mounting a 30mm scope onto a low/mild recoil rifle.
The rings I have just taken off were 1 piece Optilocks (1') never had any issues with them.

A rail will provide more potential adjustment, I haven't got the scope in front of me yet but apparently the VX6 is limited in its ring placement.

*Talleys - Lightweight and cheap
*Optis - bullet proof a bit more $
*NF rail and L/weight rings or similar

I read mixed things about Warnes, however on the internet you take anything with a grain of salt.

I think my preference would be for rings without bases or a rail.

Remember the Optis wont fit a picatinny rail, so that rules them out.
Personally, I use Burris Z Signature rings, saves your scopes from marks like the Optis.

I had some Warne steel rings and steel bases on my Tikka but swapped them for some Talleys.
The Warne rings and bases were fine, but too me they were unnecessary weight, especially considering I'd been using the factory Tikka rings before them and never had a problem them.

I saved a heap of weight by going to Talleys and haven't found them to be in trouble. I think for the average hunter the Talleys are more than strong enough, I really don't see who needs super dooper strong rings and bases on a hunting rifle even if they are rough with their gun.

Yeah cheers, I realise that they (optis) wont go on a rail, I'm starting from scratch, so either 30mm optis, a rail and rings or something like Talleys.

I never had any marks on my previous scope from the Optis and inserts, but have heard a lot of high praise for the Burris rings and their inserts.

I agree Beetroot, there is a tendency to use over engineered products, we are not all on patrol in Syria. Do the Talleys take much work to get mounted square? lapping etc?

I never laped mine and I have used 3 pairs of them. They always seem to mount straight and I haven't had ring marks from any of them.

The Talley one piece rings are made from 7000 grade aluminum which has the same tensile strength as a lot of medium strength steel. I also have used Burris Zee ring with inserts on my rimfires and found these to work well. Just means you need too by bases as well.

Go for the Talleys. Ring and rail combo is too high on tikka in my experience. Also adds more weight. A 50mm objective vx6 fit on my tikka with extralow Talleys. But only just. Go lows and you'll be away laughing. When putting the rings on I use a lapping bar to keep them straight and 99% of the time never need lapping. Different story on Remington's but never had an issue with the flat topped tikkas.

go for a rail if youre putting a vx6 on a tikka, I have a VX6 on my finnlight and im using optilocks but im lucky as mine is a short-mag action length and I can see where you could run into trouble fitting a VX6 in optilocks on a long action sako or on a tikka, rail you can do what you want with it
