Thread: 6.5 prc

Just wondering if anyone is running a 20 inch or shorter barreled 6.5 prc and is happy with the performance. Cheers

mate has a 19 incher throwing 140gr nosler @ 2905fps have dropped deer out to 700m

Mate brought my 20" t3 off me, he has made some handloads with the 147s doing 2750 was shooting factory 143 at 2790

Is all the powder even burnt by the time the projectile is at the muzzle? I guess you use a faster burning powder?

57.5gr superformance Norma brass was sending the 143s at 3000fps in my 20 inch

Yes and just, I reckon it needs to be 22”or longer to get the performance out of it. Mine didn’t like Superformance, get ok speed withRe26 but it’s hard to get.

If your reloading go as short as you like. If I did one nowadays I'd go straight to 16 or 18 inchs and be done.

This is based one the fact even at 2600fps a 143 or 147 will kill beyond what most people should be shooting at game. The PRC will hit this easily reloading.

Personally I'd go creedmoor. I run a 22 Creed that's 18inchs and I regret not making it 16 and it's even more overbore than a 6.5prc.

Interesting to hear that. I've gone through all these cartridges and now a 16inch 22 creedmoor. Love it!

Should get 2950 with faster powder.
Kills really well

156 doing 2960 in 24inch
156 doing 2830 in 20inch

I get 3100 with quite few powders into the 18 with 80s id expect 3000fps easily with a 16.
