Thread: 7mm rem mag vs .300 win mag

Need opinions on the 2 calibers to help me make a decision

the old time coon hunters used to select a pup from a litter like so.....
put all the pups in a barrel....reach in and grap a pup,tip it up and see if it had the desired plumbing and if so take it home happy.

you dont give a fella much to go on in helping your desision....eg what sized game???what range??? what maximum size of game??? do you want a heavy rifle or super lightweight??? what barrel length do you desire????

Pretty much the same argument 708 vs 308. If you prefer 7mm go with the Rem mag if you like 30cal go the the win mag. Both do the same job at the same distances you just have to tweak loads to suit. I'm a 30 cal fan so would go the the 300.

I had a T3 300wm and rebarrelled it to 7mmrm mainly for less recoil in the light rifle (I don't use a brake or can). Both killed stuff real good.

or .280 Vs 30/06 or 7mm waters Vs 30/30 or blond Vs Brunette (the answer to that one is red head)

Most of nz game out to those extended ranges. Looking at the tikka aspire With those extra wee features it has and weight isn’t a major issue for me

Trust your gut and pick the one you like, as stated they're both plenty grunty enough to shoot out to extended ranges with more than enough knockdown power.

Both will work mint. I’m a 7mm guy and love my rem mag. They all die the same if the projectile is appropriate and put in the right place.

look at what else you have in the cabinet and the decide one of two ways....either get the one that shares bore size and maybe powder to make components duel usage.....OR pich whichever one is the most different to whats already in cabinet so you wont in 3 months time when the gloss has worn off and you have fired 60 rounds on the range but not yet gone hunting decide its just too close to what you already have and so sell it at a loss.......which it seems so many flok have been doing in last year.

Have you tried shooting both calibres ? How are you with recoil ? While either one has capability to deliver terminal performance at long range the question is more about the shooter than the calibre. The difference in recoil and muzzle blast is significant. Precise and accurate shot placement is critical at any range and that gets harder as you push the range. Lugging big heavy rifles around the hills gets old real quick. To get the best out the 300WM you really need to go to 26in bbl. Be careful with your choice of rifle/stock etc - stock design becomes increasingly important as recoil goes up.

I have both, both work well for our game. The 7mm Rem is a bit milder to shoot if you compare it to a 200 gr bullet out of a 300 Win. They are much of a muchness and you would be well armed with either. Both calibers are very accurate. I personally like my 300 Win better.

If you reload there is loads of projectiles to choose from and you can load up or down to suit your needs and or recoil preferences, big weight range 140ish to 200ish
