    7mm RM Shhhhh

Lots of talk lately regarding suppressors on the larger guns failing, some failing on the smaller guns

Also lots of debate regarding thread size, suppressor length, material, weight

Without causing a supressor maker shit fight, any ideas on a suitable brand suitable for the 7mmRM?

I don't want it fitted all the time, would screw it on when I want so it would be on and off all the time. I guess because of this it would need some shoulder to pull up on?

Another thing I'm not sure of is barrel length? Don't really want to trim bugger all (if any) from a 26" barrel, is this possible or would it get ridiculously long and stupid?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

I have a gunworks fitted to mine which is 24". It does make them a bit heavy in the front but still very manageable. Robbie will also attach a sling swivel stud to the back of the suppressor so that it rides lower on your back when slung over your shoulder. This is the only one I have experience with in mag sizing. Has had its moments of being "rather warm" and no issues. On a still cool day you get mirage after 3 shots from the heat build up in the suppressor which can cause issues.

Cheers HH, I know this topic has been done to death but I want to get it right the 1st time.

Is a POI change normal on vs off?

I think it would suit my longer range hunting style better to have it in my pack and screw it on when I want. Would still be good to be able to smack over a deer without it though if I wanted without adjusting the scope to suit...

Edit- just read an older thread regarding this.

Expect some POI shift, so zero rifle with it for the longer shots...

I had a look at the Zigliani supressors at the LR shoot in Feb (Gabe had one there that could be taken apart to see the construction). I was very impressed with it, and will get one for my 7mmSAUM switch barrel when I get round to sorting it out. They are a little heavier that Gunworks etc, but for what I want it for thats not a problem(LR practice, probably won't be carrying it any great distance).
If it's not a first round hit you need to practice more

Will you leave it fitted all the time?

Don't leave your suppressor on your rifle, it will corrode the barrel

Cheers KG, so is everyone cutting 2" off the end of their 26" barrel?

Seems a pitty to loose the speed

When shooting, yes. But not when the barrel/rifle isn't being used.

If you don't intend to carry the rifle with the supressor on (i.e. put it on when you get to a shooting possie) I would stick with the 26" barrel. I had a Gunworks Magnum Supressor on my 7mmWSM with a 24" barrel. It was a prick to carry round in the scrub/bush with the supressor on (i.e. still to long with a 24" barrel)

Cheers mate that's what I was thinking as well...

Only thing I'm not sure of now is what contour TrueFlite and what thread size to use.

I'd be Fu@&d off if the threading ment the barrel would'nt shoot to it's full potential.

Look at the 14 x 1 thread on the other topic, plenty of shoulder on that and enough meat on the barrel still.

Sounds good to me, and even better that you've been a Guinea Pig and done it 1st!

    Will be watching with interest

I looked into the whole thread size thing and relieving stress etc. Opinions were divided on whether it is an issue or not. The amount of shoulder is less of an issue hence I went for less shoulder and bigger thread just in case the stress thing is for real. Dan said that was the thread he'd use anyway.
