    7mm08 appreciation thread

As it seems the latest trend is to throw anything this calibre off the nearest bridge I thought I'd bring abit of positivity back into the world of 7mm08s, as they are here to stay in my opinion, well atleast mine will be until I die!

Thought we could all post up some photos or even stories involving them,

Here's mine, a humble Remington 700 mountain rifle ss, purchased over 10 years ago, ran it no suppressor for approx the next 6, as didn't see the need for anything silly off the end. Then I decided to cut it to 18inch and suppress. Was one of the best things I've ever done in general. Tell you what, I asked all the animals I shot with it, and none of them came back and said I wish the barrel was longer!

I now reload for it, in the past have used, ppu 120gr hollow, deer season xp, hornady gmx superperformance, federal blue box, Remington coreloc and probably many others. All had similar results.

And here it is with my favourite animal to chase. Tahr from Baker creek, I have shot many animals with this rifle but this is one fond memory I'd like to share

Tikka t3, 18", Hardy can, Nightforce shv. Running ELD-X 150gn. Enough grunt to dropped red's at 350m and rung steel at 1000m.All while still being usable enough for my 35kg daughter to shoot her first deer with. What's not to like?

My old T3 7mm08 was the start point in me learning to dial and shoot further etc after selling my X-bolt 270. Was a lazer with Hornady Precision Hunter. Awesome rifle that then went on to become my old 284.

Steve Blenkarne made my first one on a How action. One of the first 7-08's in the country. Had to handload for it because factory ammo wasn't available (oh, the irony). Mainly used 120 grain pro hunters and 130 Speers through it with W760. Then it got stolen from my son's flat at Lincoln - no bolt in it.

The next was a Tikka M55 308 that I had rebelled by Steve. Used it a lot meat hunting. Sold it to a young chap eventually. Used the same bullets and loads as previous.

Now Ive got a Sako A7 (Stug stock) with 18" barrel. Still using 120 pro hunters and 120 NBT at 3k. Also have a good load with 140 SST at 2.8K. Its my loaner rifle that people who come hunting with me use. Grandson has shot goats out to 530 yards with it and son in law has shot a lot of deer. And I use it a bit still too. Currently Im using R17 with the 140 grn and 2206 with the 120grn.

Its a great calibre. Easy to get to shoot and knocks them over just fine. Nothing obnoxious about it. the 130 grain Speers and 120 Pro Hunters are like a 270 with far better manners.

Pig I shot a year or so ago.

    No photos, not that impressive.
Marlin XS-7, 19inch barrel, Sonic Suppressor. Weaver 3-10 scope until recently.
Purchased mainly due to the price, and 7-08 supposedly has less recoil than 308, probably not enough difference to make a difference but at the time....
Rifle loved PPU 139grain SPBT until you couldn't buy them. Not a Hand loader so have Hornady Whitetail 139gr, Federal Powershok 150gr and some Winchester 140gr to trial when I get a chance to get away. Factory stock fits nicely and it is real pleasant to shoot. Will buy some Belmont when they are in stock.

I have a 19inch Tikka with vx3 and dpt can as my main rifle. Was going to 284win it but don't think it necessary for what I do.

the first 7mm08 I ever saw was a BLR.... impressed me a lot.
highest compliment I could pay the cartridge is that is will do 95% of what the .270 does, and the other 5% doesnt even matter LOL.
my Nephew bought one that just wouldnt shoot....he took it home and my brother and nephew went over it,every single screw was loose..tightened them up,sighted it in..nothing at all wrong with accuracy, shot a deer at 14;00 that day with it and then went 11 deer from 11 shots before cocking one up...strangely enough that rifle too was pinched.... he tried another two rifles before going back to what he had to start with and is still more than happy with it and still killing deer with very little effort.

This will be a trip down memory lane. The first rifle I had was a .243. Shot a few deer with it. Then went to a sako .270. Then a sako 300 wsm. Then a hs precision 7mm ultra mag. Then a 7mm08 and a 7mm mag both sakos. In the last few years I’ve mucked around with .222’s , 243’s and 7mm mag. I’ve gone the full 180 over the last 20 years. At one point I liked to get further away from deer to shoot them. These days it’s all about the full outdoor experience and getting up close and personal.
For me this is the ultimate all round Nz hunting rifle. It’s cost me a shitload to arrive here

I remember you carrying Kaweka Killers deer all the way from the end of Northern Birch back to your Nissan,300 wsm in hand, it was a ss/syn model 75 hunter, always liked that model

Quite a few years back I used a Rem Mod 7 in 7mm08 as my main rifle. Great rifle for carting around light enough and nice and short. I mostly used 139 gr Hornady and the Barnes 140 gr XLC and sometimes the Noslar 140 gr BT. Shot one of my better red stags with it.Name: 27.jpg

No photos handy but my 7mm-08 in a Tikka CTR has been a great little rifle. Mostly used from the car it is quick handling and accurate. It's pleasent to shoot from the car and we all know how it performs.
First 200 rounds were Win factory ammo with 139gn projectiles. Now I load 120gn Nosler with good results.

Yes , I appreciate the 7mm-08 . Actually I miss the regular use I got when in another role.
