In my defence I didn't fit the cheek piece.
I am however working on another No5 mk1 in 9mm Luger in more "Delisle format" but all carbon fiber

Got the 2nd No5 mk1 9mm to a working stage.. just a bunch of cosmetic finishing work to go..

Let the carbon fiber mess begin..
Keeping in with the theme of the design intent of both the delisle carbine and the No5 jungle carbine I'm making a "lightweight modern tip of the hat" to the fore mentioned carbines.
Not everyone's cup of tea, and I get that.. but let me assure the purists amoungst us that no restorable milsurp rifles were harmed in these builds. Both the no5 actions came to me in a box of enfield bits at a gun show and we're stripped of all parts with no bolts etc.
I have picked through no4 bolts that were beyond headspace tolerances and cut them short. The wooden furniture is all Bubba's handy work and in the scrap pile.
The only thing felt a little bad about was the lightened No5 bottom metal, but not bad enough not to use it..

Butt and mid wood almost done and ready for final assembly once the resin has been blocked back and wet sanded to p1200.
The butt was missing a lot of wood at the wrist so I built it up about 5mm with some filler and reshaped it before skinning it in carbon fiber.
Next up will be a forend. Ive laminated some 1"4" thick pieces of Balsa wood together and cut the 2" radius to give me a light weight part to skin with carbon.
Ready for shaping..

Much excite
Identify your target beyond all doubt
Assembled at last.
It shoots amazingly well! Ragged holes at 50m with 147gr and 160gr factory fmjs.
Just the front grip to shape and carbon skin and a front sling attachment to complete.

It actually doesn't look as bad as I thought it would. You dont usually associate a lee enfield with carbon fiber
may be sarcastic may be a bad joke
Yeah something a bit different.. a good use of some trashed timber and a bare action. 9mm Luger is not really associated with a Lee Enfield either but it's surprisingly fun to shoot.
I intended it to be unlike a typical .45acp delisle built on a mk3 as a 9mm in that is an insult to history. The carbon finish on the later No5 hopefully has enough artistic licence not to upset to many purists![]()
I read recently about destroyer carbine made on a reming 788 in 9mm
