Fuckit I'ma apply for more receivers in light of this. Had one turn up on Saturday, but you can't have too many it seems.
Surely the police can't just make new laws because they don't like something, or they have an agenda to get rid of them.
There must be a few lawyers who know the rules who are hunters and shooters who could take them to court if it is illegal.
It seems stupid that the powers at be let people be done for drink driving 10 times, yet can still get their licence back, but people with MSSA guns who have killed probably no one in the past 3years, get punished with reasons that are non existent.
Yep it makes absolutely no sense. But be careful not to fall into their warped way of looking at the world.
If you have an AR, it is most likely to be a boring old sporting rifle. It isn't an MSSA unless it meets the big mag, flash-hider, lug, stock, grip definition.
Realistically, if anyone is worried, get yourself a spare bolt, some spare gas rings, an ejector, an extractor or two, and maybe a buffer spring and charging handle.
These are the only bits that are likely to break/wear out in an AR, and if you have them set aside, you'll be good for pretty much the working life of your rifle and it won't make a blind bit of difference what the retards in Wellington come up with to mess with imports.
A few spare barrels and whatnot
Does everyone see a time when buying an AR in NZ regardless to configuration (A or E) will be a no go ?
Will we see the outlets that currently sell them being denied permits to import ?
I suppose if yes is the predominant answer than folks need to own a few new ones as spares that don't get used until needed ?
Surely they can't just out right ban something because they feel like it.
There is plenty of evidence that synthetic cannabis is bad for you and does society no favours what so ever, yet they are struggling to ban it.
Yet how come they can so easily ban ARs and other scary rifles.
If they are trying to classify them as E cat just so they can make sure responsible gun owners are the ones who own them, I don't really object to that. But if it's going to be the first step to banning them then I definitely am not keen on the idea.
After this whole debarcle is over are they still going to have the crazy law that requires you to have a current E cat gun destroyed in order to import a new one?
I do, there shouldn't be an irresponsible gun owner - if you can own any gun, you should be able to own Any Gun.
It's not a law, it's a police policy that has no legislative basis and no practical purpose aside from inconveniencing the most law abiding shooters and costing them a fortune.Quote:

I think that with current legislation they'd struggle to enact a policy of a ban on AR15 rifles/parts and have it hold up, short of having "being an AR15/clone" declared an MSSA feature. Which still leaves endorsed firearms and is meaningless as far as preventing any crime at all. It's just a mindless policy of civil disarmament.
Everyone should get their E endorsement and own an MSSA AR15 and a featureless ("A cat")one. And whatever other cool shit they want.
This, basically. He was trespassed from a book store on lower Stuart St for threatening one of the workers with a shotgun in a cardboard box, or something. Police should have, at the very least, reassessed his mental state (which was rapidly degenerating at this point).
As many people as possible should exercise the right to be granted and hold an E endorsement (unless unfit/improper) so that it is more difficult to remove that right.
I don't think they would be out to all out ban them, if they were going to outright ban a type of firearm it would much more likely be pistols they would be after.
If I was sitting on the fence between getting a thumbhole stock or apply for E endorsement, I'd go for the endorsement, I'd see it as future proofing.
At the end of the day, it should be left alone. It would be much more productive trying to make people more aware of firearms safety, like not shooting each other, than going after an imaginary boogy man to try and please the UN. A much more efficient use of time and resources, but that's just my opinion.
While it's satisfying in a way to say "I told you so", I'd rather they just left it alone.
We were all correct in saying that it was pointless, retarded and achieves nothing more than inconvenience to law abiding shooters, it's just taken the police this long to realise it. Assuming these extremely insubstantial rumours are correct. "the police want to control guns further".... well, no shit.
I need to get off my fat ass and start getting an AR...
the only way they would ever stop ar's is to ban all semis like in oz but that will never happen touch wood
You have a really narrow view of the world. That scenario you outlined is going to happen here. Nuff sed.
Na once yellowstone blows and we are all plunged into nuclear winter firearms owners and outdoorsmen will become chiefs of the small tribes that manage to survive :D:D:D:D

And those steely-eyed individuals will control a mighty fiefdom, and their own soccer mum harem.... :sarge:
Sod that! 1 mrs is hard enough work, imagine the nagging from a whole bunch of them! Fingers crossed yellowstone doesn't let go for another few thousand years! :D
Must be trolling, because that is fucking stupid. Maybe I should have a special endorsement because my car is more than a certain horsepower or a special knife licence to chop my veges. We already have a special endorsement for semis its called a FAL. This is old shit though, I wont go on you got my raise.
Wow, an even narrower view of the world. Oh my.
Hanse, not trolling at all. we can talk again in 10 years - would be VERY surprised if semis are not on a special endorsement by then.
Do a bit of research about firearms licensing for semis in Aus, UK, South Africa, France ....
By continuing the pistol grip type definition, I think the police have just created a rod for their own backs. Eventually they are going to have enough of silly challenges etc, and just simply go to the next logical step, which is endorsement for all semis.
If my comments are "so fucking stupid", do you agree or disagree with restrictions on handguns ? How about fully automatic firearms ? Would you like anyone with a general license to be able to possess an RPG ?
The police have done well with this latest law change. They have captured a vast number of locations and serial numbers of certain firearms. Yes they are available on A cat still but for how much longer. The trend around the world is for firearm prohibition. The UN are doing there part also. The writing is on the wall, how anyone can miss it astounds me. Im guessing in 30 years you wont have semi autos in public hands and possibly boltguns will be on some kind of E cat type register with special conditions attached to them for use along with registration of/and a cap on ammunition sales per person. Hell, to make any firearms in circulation over here completely useless you only have to cut off the ammunition supply, including powder and components. Easy peasy really.
I was being serious ebf, not my fault i can look a little further foward than the end of my nose. Unlike some on this forum it seems.
ebf, I fully agree with you that there will be likely more restrictions imposed on lawful firearm users, my point was that a lot of the time the restrictions are ill thought out, kneejerk reactions to an imagined danger, hence the "f ing stupid" point. Note that I haven't been surrounded by foul mouths for quite as long today, so my language should stay as the queen intended.
I am familiar with the situations in the Countries you mention, I think you will find the laws are often as I state, ill thought out, knee jerk reactions. The criminals in all those countries still retain their guns, it is merely the law abiding who have their rights curtailed. The loonies will still have their Dunblanes. Just because somewhere has a law doesn't mean we should copy it in my opinion.
As for how our current endorsement arrangement works in my view, fine. Bar the messy mssa definition. Flag that and make all FAL holders meet the Ecat storage rules, no full auto. Happy as!
How is my world view narrow Towley? Because I think the banning all semis idea is stupid? Takes all sorts to make a world mate. Out of interest what is your plan for when the baby blue helmets decide to take your guns? Id rather some sensible legislation myself, than look forward to the end of our sport as you seem to be.
Hanse, no worries.
My view is that crims all over the world get guns, completely outside of whatever firearms laws exist. Bringing them into a discussion that only applies to those that abide by the law in the first place is a waste of time.
I do see sense in having specific license type for semis, as well as handguns, much in the same way that you have a special heavy truck license on top of your standard drivers license. I am not saying ban, just more stringent criteria. For those that want semis because of pest control, service rifle or 3 -gun etc, I think something like the current b endorsement system would work fine.
Absolutely with you on all firearms in heavy duty safes
Why did this thread raise it's ugly head again after being asleep since the beginning of April ? :P
Blame rambo.
Blame it on the moonlight ...
Good times ...

my granddad (RAF shooting coach) retired said he would rather 5 slower but well placed rounds form a bolt action rifle than quick shots 30 from a semi or full auto says that the 5 shots from the bolt Acton are more effective and there for there is no need for autos and defiantly not for civilian use in some ways I agree but in other ways I very much disagree but I think there is some merit in his argument as I think a lot (not all) of people that hunt with semis get that "if I miss ill just shoot again" mentality
be intresting to hear what people think about this Honestly...... not trying to wind people up I don't do that
