Advice on buying rifle with cracked stock - Tikka M590

Hi, just after a bit of advice / thoughts on buying a rifle with a cracked + repaired stock.

    A. Avoid it?

    B. Don’t worry about it?

    C. Devalue / resale concerns?

    D. Ongoing concerns with breaking again?

    E. Anything else?

It’s a Tikka M590 308. Stock is otherwise in great condition. Bluing is good. Bore is shiny & rifling is sharp.

They had it for $1100, I noticed the crack and asked to take it out for stock to check it. During the removal of action from stock, the piece literally fell off. So they sent it away to be repaired and offered it to me for $950… it’s on hold.

    Thanks in advance!

At least it's not through the wrist, it's not structural just cosmetic. If you want that rifle and otherwise it sounds fine try haggling a bit more

    Repair it and keep hunting

I use polyaliphatic resin to repair timber stocks, a repair that lasts a lifetime

what the others have said have seen a lot worse - haggle haggle haggle - they will struggle to sell as a lot of fussy buggers out there- so long as its been repaired properly should be fine they were a very accurate rifle

Salesman made it sound like that’s as low as they’d go on the rifle but would move on any accessories. I’ll guess I’ll try the haggle again and see

Haggle. And walk away. Come back week or two later n haggle again. Unless bore is pristine I suggest price is too high anyway.not threaded,no suppressor ,there is $400 right there. Compare it to package Howa and package Tikka T3 package..... And haggle some more.

offer $750 first up - you may get it for $850 - theres a lot for sale at the moment so be prepared to walk away if they wont move- tell them your final offer $850- and walk away if they wont haggle - as gonetropo has said they will have some markup

If it was my own rifle I’d repair and forget and hope for the best ( have done so recently with my 22). If I didnt own it yet Id say there is a chance a nother crack has gone through the bedding and Id offer half the amount ie $450. You at least need to discount it by the cost of a bedding job. Its a gamble. You might get a bargain.

Older rifle....barrel condition is undetermined. Check it with a borescope before making any offer.....almost sure there will be some throat erosion, or rust marks. Teslong borescopes are cheap and will save you a lot of money over many years....guaranteed...!

Its an older Tikka, one of the good ones! The barrel will be good for another 3000 rounds, and that repair is purely cosmetic. Have seen way worse than that, that have been repaired and never failed. Haggle and be patient.
