I had a M590 new back in the early 90s it was OK but I wouldn't be in a hurry to buy another one ...
I bought a rifle with a Bubba'ed stock once upon a time..had 900 on it. Had been on TM x3 times and hadn't sold. In the shop the shiny side was turned against the wall..I asked to see it. Exclaimed heavily when the badness was exposed and said yeah nah thks..and too bad otherwise was exactly what I was looking for..Make us an offer then, was the response. Nah, just offend ya. No, no go ahead..ah well okay then, $600..mm let me.look at what it owes us. Ok could do 650. Walked out with it for 650 with a box ammo in the deal. Took 10 min to restore as original parts were in the box. Just try your luck. They can only say no. And sales are apparently real slow at the mo...
I know a lot but it seems less every day...
Yes I just got one for $75 and it just works on my Linux laptop just fine, and I am impressed for so little money. Its also on sale now for $63NZD. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006594170589.html
Thanks for all the good input everyone.
I tried delivering my best package of those angles suggested in a haggle on price, but he said with the cost on the stock repair they truly had no room left to move.
So anyway, I moved on to compare with a nice looking Howa 1500 walnut stainless on in the rack close bye… jeez for sale the price I was really impressed. Hadn’t been sure of the Howa stocks so never gave the 1500 much attention in the past, but dressed in walnut it felt great and it seems to have all the right features.
Think that’s me sorted!
Cheers

My 695 (long action version of what you are looking at) has a crack on the stock in a similar place. I fixed it with Poly to prevent it spreading and its not been an issue since even though it has been used heavily and taken many animals. They are great guns that are very well built and point very well, although they are slightly heavier than a plastic fantastic. Out of all my rifles, it is the one that means the most to me, and I really enjoy using it. I paid $1000 for mine with optilocks, a 3-9 weaver, and a spare magazine about 6 years ago. It has since been supressed and cerakoted.
I would buy it for around that value. They only flaw with them is that the plastic magazine release can wear out, which can lead to chambering issues. @Fssprecision sorted mine out with a metal replacement and it has worked a charm ever since.
