    advice please

    Hi all,

I purchased this really cool rifle and want to put a scope on for hunting / long range shooting at my rifle club. We can shoot out to 1000m at our range so would love to have a crack at that. Reckon .308 can reach that effectively?

The rifle is a Winchester P14 that has had a target barrel fitted in .308 by Din Collings. It has had the receiver modified and weaver mounts placed on top. All it needs is scope rings and a scope hopefully. I was looking at this and to be honest don't really want to spend any more than this if possible. They are apparently good scopes for the money but the guy selling them has average feedback and people reckon he doesn't respond if things go wrong. Not really keen! Konus Pro, 8.5-32x52 Pro M30 Rifle Scope #7282 | Trade Me

Are there any other scopes out there you guys would recommend for this rifle around that price range?. I would like one that can be adjusted without removing caps etc. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Not much help but have shot 660 with my 308 and Weaver V9 scope zeroed at 200. Couldn't see where they where landing so put some tracer down the range. Walked them up the range until on the steel. Think it was something like a 5' holdover

I shoot 600 yards with my ar15 so figured 1000m should be achievable but hard with the .308

Well achievable, finding out what twist your barrel is would be a good start.

You could try the Bushell 10 power, good rep for what they are, you should get one landed for what you want
    I'll check
Bushnell Elite Tactical Rifle Scope - Rifle Scopes - Optics | Natchez Shooters Supplies
there, change for rings as well
1k is an awfull long way for a 308, or any caliber for that matter.
I'm sure better exponents than me will be along to help out
though I would give serious thought to that scope in your price range , it will easily do 5-600yrds.

Put a tight fitting patch on a jag on your cleaning rod, mark a line up the rod, insert into barrel and mark it push further watching the line on the rod till it has done one full turn and mark the rod again, distance between marks is twist rate IE 10 inches between marks would be a 1in10twist.
1 in 11 or 1 in 10 your golden 1in 12 or 13 while not impossible is going to be tricky to run projectiles with a high enough bc to stay supersonic out to 1000m.

Thanks, I had a google and saw a similar thing. I have asked the seller if he knows what the twist is. Hopefully he knows!

C & B stands for Collings & Bradley. I assume the rest is the date, 8 August 2003?
