    Air rifle pellets

Picking up an Umarex air pistol in a couple of weeks
    177 calibre
Just going to be target shooting, but wondered if any brand / type of pellet is more accurate ?
Are the pointed ones more accurate than the flat headed ones ?
Is there actually any difference ?
    Am I overthinking this ?
    Cheers

You depart with mighty boasts, but you come back having done little.
Sounds like a typical hunting trip !

    Hi Frog
the more expensive and named usually have a better quality control so more pellets / slugs are the same weight skirts , not deformed , same size etc
just like a rimfire you need to try them out to see what your barrels likes
the pointed one most likely make holes in the can filled with water better
are you getting a CO2 jobbie or a pump up single shot
    Happy shooting

Flat headed for targets 10m or maybe 15m. Dome ones for if you want to take a critter out at a bit further

The actually reason for flat heads on targets is to punch a clean hole for scoring hence the name wad cutters.

If your not worried about how it punches paper, get a few pellets of weights and find what shoots best and have fun

I'm using QYS 'wadcutters' out to 25 yards for indoor benchrest.
They are fine at that range. Quite accurate.
Also use QYS Domed, and Streamlined, plus (lately) H&N FTT (Field Target Trophy).
All of these shoot OK in my rifle (PCP).
The Pointed ones (with a sharp point) are not very good (although my view of accuracy may be more than you need).
So don't fret too much about the pellets.
As @Billbob said...you will have to get a few different makes and types to see what your gun likes.
I was recently given some X-Sport Stoeger airgun pellets. Don't waste your money buying these woeful pellets. Bloody horrible.
You get what you pay for with pellets. Cheap is not good.

Artillery lends dignity to what would otherwise be an unseemly brawl.

Head down to your local gun shop and buy a sample pack of pellets . Theres usually 5-6 differant weights and styles , but only a small quantity so you can have a play and see what your gun likes with out having to buy multiple full size packets

The elcheapho old school waisted pellets in flip top plastic container still work plurry well. Unless you really trying to get gnats nuts accurate I couldn't justify paying the extra...and for small game MY experience says the old school ones are better.

JSB are always the first I try in a new airgun, ill often try others afterwards but almost always go back to the JSB. Hades are a great hunting pellet and perform almost exactly like the exacts.

H&N crow magnum really transformed my air rifle, the accuracy and knockdown is impressive but they're probably too slow in an air pistol
