    No expert, but think it's a sporterised Lee Metford Mk II, originally made in 1892. Barrel has been replaced with one with enfield rifling (hence the "E" marking).

    Velocity is thrilling,but diameter does the real killing.

    @john m "I have its brother."

    That is incredible! What a coincidence.
    Yours looks to be in slight better condition, although I have only recently received this rifle and have done nothing to clean it up.
    Do you know anything of the service history?
    Is yours a family heirloom, or something you picked up along the way?
    I think the rifle I have belonged to his grandfather.
    I notice your one has not had the muzzle modified/extended.
    Cheers, Hugh
    Do you want to buy the brother so you have a matching set?

    I know nothing about its history. It came with a P 14 and a BSA Sportsman 15 from a deceased estate to look after until one of the kids got a firearms licence. That was over 20 years ago and have not seen or heard from any one since.
