Nothing wrong with 7mm08 especially for a first centre fire.

    It's almost a 308 and almost a 270, but not quite.

Almost lol being almost 308 is pretty lame. 308 is almost 30 06 which is an almost 300 winmag. I hear 7 08 is good for hunting Tofu

Ignore them 92% don't know anything, nothing wrong with the 7mm08 choose the right bullet for the job on hand
you don't need fancy Hi-tech projectiles standard stuff like Hornady Interlocks, Sierra ProHunter Speer Hot cor will do
the job on deer in NZ,
I friend has a DPT .30 cal Magnum suppressor on a 30/06 works extremely well should in fact be better than a standard
size it has more capacity for the gas to expand into cooling faster

The first caliber I bought for my boys other than their 22, was a 7mm08. They killed quite a few deer with it already. Plenty of quality 7mm bullets out there to reload. As for the magnum suppressor on the rifle, go for it, no issues, as long as you think it isnt too bulky.

Hi. You bought Howa 7mm08 as your first rifle. Howas are great rifles and as much as the haters disagree, 7mm08, 308, 30/06, 270, 6.5x55 are all close enough to the same performance for most people that any of them will be fine. The 7mm08 has gained a reputation of being the rifle of choice for auckland dwelling latte sipping wannabes, but you dont fit that mold as you did not by a Tikka 7mm08......That would have got you some stick.....

It is a good rifle, Its a decent brand, and the calibre is suitable for any game in NZ. As a first rifle it is a very good choice. It would also be a good choice for your second, third or fourth rifle. Dont worry about the haters....

I agree 98% with the above. The 2% I disagree with is that light hearted mickey taking is being misrepresented as hating.

Welcome to the forum @bmjms, you have the gear to do the job. I use a 22 magnum suppressor on my 22lr rifle with subsonic ammo. The two loudest bits of taking a shot are the firing pin going click and the projectile going thud on a rabbit.

    Kidding kidding.

To the OP nothing wrong with grabbing said suppressor.
