Any mechanical minded people here?

I want to buy a good quality torque wrench and star shaped drives to fit the screws on my riffle scope mounts as pictured above.

I don't have any fitting small enough with what I have at home and I will need a good torque wrench for when I tighten it back up once I get my scope fixed.

Do you have any suggestions and what are you guys using?

Buy once, cry once

A Wheeler FAT wrench plus a decent set of all the driver heads you’re ever likely to need. I got my wrench from my local gunsmith, and the heads (jonesway) from BNT. Well worth it.

wheeler FAT Wrench.....if it doesnt come with the right size bit head down the hardware store but dont buy the cheapest chinese bits

Ive got the correct sized star drive in a wee complete set...I can do them up by hand then have T handled screwdriver with correct socket to take the bits...cant see need for torque settings on rings,firm all around is good enough they never shift. should be in hard ware store.

Try online gun store in nz

Google is your friend but buy wheeler brand. Do not go cheap

Same re driver bits. You get what you pay for

And lastly, it’s likely you’ll need a light grade of loctite. Helps prevent lost screws./bolts. Emphasis on lighter grade

What size bit do you think it is MD? I had aT15 but it was too big, I suspect a T10 maybe the go?

They are called Torx fittings... much more reliable than Allen keys

bugguered if I know...I keep trying the wee stars till I get he correct one!!!! same with the allen key ones,its a bugger when have to put on glasses to see screws then take them off to look through scope,then back on for adjustment again.....actually switched scope not 20 minutes ago using the wee star drive thing.because its some 2" long I didnt even bother putting handle on it...it is tight enough it wont ever move on rimfire.

Never use high strength ‘red’ Loctite on ring screws! Had to help a mate get a Nightforce out of a set of rings that had been glued up with high strength. Tell ya, it was high stress! Very careful use of heat sorted it, just…..

Its ok MD just thought you might know as my new kit comes as low as a T10 so was just hoping it fits

I found it good to buy a set that had lots of fifferent bits: flat, phillips, square, hex, torx etc cost $50.

Fat wrench comes with a set of bits
1/4 Sq
2x Torx
3x Allen
4x Flat head

I managed to strip the corners off my 'approx' T15 torx bit that came with the set, but I bought a set of Bosch torx drive bits from Mitre 10, (T15 - T40)
the set fits in with the rest of the FAT wrench set.

I've got a Vortex torque screw driver. From that Bronco Sports outfit in Tauranga. Does the job nicely also. Have not used a Fat Wrench to compare.

Yes it ended up being a T10.

It had stated on the website that the Fat wrench came with a T10,T15 & T20 bit however when it arrived yesterday it only had a T15 & T20 so I had to run around town and find a T10.

So if buying one just be aware of this
