Looking at getting a Tikka 6.5x55 what do people think of them
Tikka build good rifles.
6.5x55 is a bloody good hunting caliber
But what really counts is what do "You" think of them.
Cheers

@andyanimal31 Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha hahaha
Is this a trick question????
It is a reloaders caliber if ever there was one,if you dont reload perhaps look at other calibers.
I dont like the T3 myself but it is a quality rifle for the money.
Yup as Cam said, to get the best out'a em performance wise you need to reload, they are accurate as & a good alround cal for most of NZ's big game beasties. If you'll guna use it in the bush alot then get a second safety hole or known as a "half cock" hole drilled in the bolt, best thing you can do to a T3 :cool:
No may I ask why you ask if this is a trick question Shearer
Sorry. If that is in reference to my comment, asking if a certain brand of rifle or certain cartridge is any good is opening the can of worms and waiting for the fish to bite. If you search the forum for Tikka or 6.5x55 I am sure you will have enough reading and debate to last you a week.
Personally. I own two T3s and love them and wouldn't hesitate to take any big game animal in NZ with a 6.5x55.
If you can get some 120 grain nosler BT factory norma ammo it will be a laser beam, or even that norma training ammo, brads even hit a barn door with it and that was at 105 yards with a blaser ;)
Get it and be happy mate :D
Good rifle in a great calibre. If you like the 708 you will love the 6.5.
I regret selling mine, and will own another one when funds allow.
@Kiwiman
As mentioned above the 6.5x55 is a Reloaders dream to get both speed and accuracy.
It's also a very flat shooting caliber too.
If your a Reloader my mates load in his Tikka is 49.5grs of Vitivori N560 powder with 140gr Amax's seated 80thou off the lands with MV of about 2800fps.
Very accurate and easily smashes Red Deer out to about 600m
But remember this load is for someone else's rifle so start lower in your rifle and work up looking for any signs of pressure.
Let us know how you get on.
Cheers

awesome rifle and calibre!
let's just say they ouch well above their weight.
I'm running the 143 eldx and having excellent results.
today my longest shot on a goat was 576 bang flop.
the farmer couldn't believe it so set him up and he smacked one at 500
he's of to buy one next week!

Get a more common bullet I worked up a 140 amax load and now they don't make the fukn things any more same with my other 6.5 worked up a 123 amax load and now surprise surprise they don't do that any more by the looks of it either so don't use Hornady any more
Depends on the brand of ammo. Some of the European brands of ammo load their 6.5x55 for modern rifles as it is a popular cartridge there. American stuff tends to be loaded lighter as they dont use the modern rifles in that calibre and most of the 6.5s there are older. But I would also agree that reloading allows for more out of this calibre but that is no different from almost every other calibre.
