Anyone have a hardys carbon barrel on their rifle? After info on break in procedure

Hey guys, just after some info on the barrel break in procedure. Hardys gave me a booklet on how to break the barrel in but it seems pretty extensive.. after every shot they say to run about 30 patches through the things with about 3 different products... if you do this Over the break in process you’ll be there for days cleaning and using 100’s of patches? It’s not a comp rifle it’s just a 308 bush pig pretty much... 16.5” barrel, obviously I want it to shoot straight but can I just use like g96 and a few patches between each shot?

The gunsmith who fitted my Hardy barrel (not a carbon one to be fair) told me to "go shoot it".

My Hardy 300saum barrel (not carbon) shot great without any mucking around and after maybe 500 shots still does. Never coppers. I just gave it a real good scrub after the first few shots and that was it really apart from a Hoppes scrub every now and again. I do put a clean bore snake through it after each hunt.

As Tahr suggested I had a Carbon one cleaned 1,3,5 shots with carbon and copper removed then full clean maybe every 50. Never store wet use a pull through or dry patch.

Would you recommend using a copper and carbon remover specifically or will g96 work?

My barrel copper fouls quiet badly and takes a lot to clean it out. I’m using KG products.

My thought is if it requires the process you describe it can't really be very good.
Howa, savage, tikka, just go for it. Also I think more rifle barrels are ruined by over cleaning than anything else.

Talked to a sniper instructor from army and his exact words 6-8,000 rounds in 308 copper or carbon maybe every 500 rounds and by Christ he can shoot. So are we prematurely eating barrels out for the sake of barrel manufacturing??

Was talking at the range this arvo with a guy who still shoots TR with a sling, and is dammed good at it, gives the F Class boys a run for their money (even considering how the targets are scored differently).

He shoots 308 exclusively, using two rifles with regular turns about. This allows him to verify any accuracy fall off. He has a barrel up to 12,000 rounds, although he usually has been changing them about 5000.

Barrel running in is a load of shit. Go shoot it. I have had several custom barrels for both target shooting and hunting. I have a Hardy carbon fibre barrel. When he gave me the booklet I gave it back. Custom barrels are hand lapped in their finishing process, just shoot them. Years ago I did a lot of research into this subject....short answer again....just shoot it.

308/3006 calibre give one of the longest barrel life for a rifle. Barrel life depends on calibre, loads and how you look after them.

@Taupohunter I’ve lapped it twice with bore paste so far, full clean every 15-20rounds.
