    Anyone imported a scope recently?

Any dramas? No permit required? I’ve asked PN Arms office but they don’t seem to want to reply.

    Any info would be helpful

Don't mess around with your local. Contact the Arms Act Service Delivery Group at Kapiti direct. Nowadays your local will most likely end up asking them at any rate.

Got one in start of the year, police permit is required before import as it is a “firearm part”, with a copy to the seller before they send it. Customs were slow, and NZ Post wont ship/deliver firearm parts.....overall a hassle, and unless your making a big saving, not worth it IMHO

I did a couple of months ago from US. No paper work. Arrived in mail box no drama, no tax, no questions.

Can you not say it is for an air-rifle, or better still for one of those replica airsoft guns that some grown men like to run around the woods playing soldier with?

I mean, you can mount them on crossbows too so saying scope=firearm component is not technically correct.

How far away is your licensing department from saying springs and screws are also firearm parts too (they go into guns!!!), so no importation of them without permits!

Pretty sure I read somewhere that they changed the law (again). Gunworks have an interesting little paragraph on it.

Police Mail Order Forms for rifle parts and suppressors - lets do this people, don't be afraid to get the police mail order form to complete firearm part mail order sales and suppressor mail order sales, while it might be annoying for us to go to the police station to obtain the form, its more annoying for police to write out forms left, right and centre.

If completing these forms creates a problem for police due to under staffing, they may well change the legislation, they have before, in the first tranch legislation was made that we needed a permit to obtain scopes, rings, rails, slings etc, it caused so much extra work for police that legislation was changed in June 2020 to no longer requiring a permit for these items.
So it seems scopes dont require a permit any more.

I guess you can try it? When I bought mine in, a telescopic site was considered a “firearm part”, even though it in no way would make a firearm “fire”. As said above, maybe now the rules have changed yet again? Confusion Raines supreme. A quick email to the arm’s office in Wellington will get the answer for you. Good luck

Everywhere I look says 'no shipping of riflescopes outside of USA'

Will give it a shot, but the website does not actually have anything for sale!

Interesting choice, given your otherwise staunch support for the government.
I've noticed lately many people who support the new laws also ignore them.

    Wow, really guys? Come on.

It isnt fucking illegal! You dont need a permit to import scopes, rings, rails, slings etc, it was changed in June.
