Yes Marlin 60 receiver with grooved mount is/was aluminium. I don't recall seeing a receiver not grooved for scope. Tricky trying to weld ali.
I may have a spare receiver sitting around here - will check tomorrow - 60 receivers did not change much over the decades. Will let you know..
The retailer saw the rifle when I bought it in over a year ago to get some rings, given its been so long, im not going to take the matter further, but I am going to question them on the rings, it was a different person in the store who served me who no longer works there. Ive hardly used the rifle in that time, I wouldnt have known none the wiser and the only reason i took the jolly scope off was to fit a flashlight mount on the rail and after all of that the mount didnt even fit. It was only when i fitted the scope back on that the damage occurred.Quote:

Seems everyone is using picatinny rails these days for the most part, so probably why they are harder to find.
I bought a 995 with cracked dovetails. I filed the top of the receiver flat then drilled 3 holes through from inside the receiver and countersunk them for M4 countersunk screws that screw into a tapped picatinny rail. I'll see if I can find some pics of my fix. It's not too much work if you can find someone with a mill. I would say that the receiver is too thin to tap threads into.
Here are a few pics. Picatinny rail tapped and helicoiled. I ended up using grade 12.9 M4 Torx csk screws eventually as I could torque them more than hex head without damage.

Yeah, thats what i meant sorry. Draw filing it if done carefully would probably give you just as good results and if you are not careful with a mill, you could take more off than necessary unless you take your time, I can see why the gunsmith was a bit reluctant to just mill off the dovetail.Quote:

It will be a cast alloy ether steel alloy or aluminium alloy receiver
There’s all sorts of things that can go wrong there
It’s already proven weak as you broke the dovetail off
It could crack or warp
Much safer to drill and tap a couple of holes
@Old_School yeah my dovetails are still there, I just made sure that the top of the receiver was nice and flat for mounting my rail. Filing just removed the distorted parts of dovetails and cleaned up the top face of receiver.

Much cheaper solution than what the gunsmith offered and is essentially the same result.
I'm no expert on glue but I'd be surprised if you couldn't get something that would stick a pic rail on the receiver good and solid.
Definitely wouldn't be removable like a screwed on one but saves having to drill the receiver.
