    I assume A cat because people sell previously E cat AR's as A cat without pistol grip. Using this logic, a stripped lower (without a pistol grip) would be A cat

    It is an a cat rifle in nz, however regardless of what the law says in nz it is still classed as an assault rifle world wide so was not sure where I stand with exporting , they say you don't need a permit from police to export an a cat ,,

    It depends on the specific lower.

    If the lower has been endorsed, then it is an E Category. If not, it's A Category.

    @6MMBR

    A stripped lower is merely one part of a complete firearm.

    Firearm parts are not considered a firearm therefore they cannot be categorised.

    It's not until the final firearm is assembled that it can be categorised.

    Check it out here in our current Firearms Arms Code, especially the definition of a Firearm and the definitions of the Types of Firearms

    I'm no AR aficionado, but I thought the action of any firearm is the part that is legally considered to be the firearm that all other parts are attached to, and that in the case of ARs, that is the lower receiver.
