    AR scope advice

    Hello chaps

After some advice from the group. I have a pig problem. I also have an Aero Precision AR that I fix that problem with. What I need is advice as to an illuminated AR type scope. Preferably 25mm but 30mm if need be. Various types of shooting from standing to fully nuts.

    Any input would be appreciated.

    Cheers

    Troy

Leupold AR Mod 1 Patrol illuminated. 25mm tube. Retail around $800. I have a non illum one with p5 turrets, milrads and mils tmr reticle. Very clear glass and light. The illum model may just what you need. I think I have seen them advt at Gun City, but and enquiry to Leupold agent in NZ would sort it for you.

    For hunting purposes I would head more towards 2-7x33 or 3-9x40 over a 1-4, 6 or 8 x24 (30mm tube).
As the larger objective will gather more light, you say you will be using an illuminated reticle, so I assume its in low light or under a spot light?

The 1-4x20 (1" tubes) are pretty lousy for light gathering.

I have looked thru a few bushnell AR type scopes and big bulky and like looking down a tunnel. Prefer leupold and rate them, they have the new freedom range with a pig plex on 1-4 magnification or go for a 2-7 range. Duno what your budget is but they do a fire dot model for dusk shooting or hunting in dark bush. The cost of those is getting up there but sounds like your AR may get a bit of bush bashing so you need something robust reliable {leupold}I would stay away from exposed turrets if your running around the bush hunting. My mark AR has them without locks and so easy to catch/bump and move your windage or elevation. This is just my opinion.

fair comment about exposed turrets. I wrap insulation tape around mine when in the bush.

Thanks to everybody for their input.

After reading your posts and a long utube and forum session Ive ordered a 1x8x24 Strike Eagle (why do they have such weird names?) and vortex 30mm mount. Ill post how it goes.

    Thanks again.

This is what I use. I wish the reticle was a little finer but other than that it is a great bit of kit.
