    AR Single Stage trigger misfiring

I had a AR trigger crisis before a trip over the weekend so made an emergency purchase of a Timney single stage 3 pound trigger. The trigger is fantastic but for the first time ever I had multiple misfires. These are with reloads using AR milspec primers.

Has anyone else had this problem? Do Timney's have lighter than normal hammer strikes? The AR primers are a little harder than normal primers but it should bloody work cos it is an AR after all.

I am having nightmareish flashbacks to the misfiring problems I had with a Beretta shotgun.

You may need stronger springs for milspec primers with light triggers.
Hence I don't go lighter than 4.5lb for an AR.

That’s the obvious conclusion but it should work I would have thought and my old trigger was quite light with no misfires.

I guess what I am asking is is this normal for that trigger? Has anyone had similar problems or did I get a dud trigger?

Surprising a Timney is having issues.

Ditto, looks and feels like a quality bit of engineering. May not be the trigger but it was the only thing I changed before having issues.

Timneys are famous for not having a strong hammer strike, most .22 ar kits won't work with them for this reason

I have had very similar problems as you (light strikes) with my Timney. Are you planning to keep the trigger group in the rifle permanately? If you have a belt sander you could shave a very very slight bit off the tail of the bolt so the firing pin protudes out more and smacks the primer properly. I've often thought the firing pin protrusion in an AR could be slightly better.

Or alternately you could acquire a stronger hammer spring.

Yeah ,I was disappointed when I put my dedicated .22 upper on my R15 lower which had timney trigger installed.,
it had nothing but consisted light strikes which resulted in no BANG !
I use a mil spec trigger in my dedicated .22AR build .. doesn't miss a beat

Take the trigger back and swap for a different one. Or change your primers..

try different ammo , more civilian type stuff if goes bang everytime .... it may just be your primers , or try some other primers , surley cant be a faulty trigger.

Thanks for the replys. My googling confirms what has been said here. Timney use a light hammer spring in order to get a light trigger pull. I am going to change back to normal primers and if that works keep calm and carry on.
