I bought a NEA off Ken. Screwed a 7.62x39 barrel into it, put a new bolt on and was ready to go. AR mags are ok if you only put 5-6 rounds in. If you want more than that you need a banana type to allow for the taper of the case. I haven't got it on my E so only use A cat mags anyway.
I went with the 7.62x 39 because I have stacks of ammo, it has heaps more punch than the 223 on animals, a 30 cal hole down a barrel removes a lot of weight and I didn't want to muck around with brass catchers or looking for brass.
It shoots alright, about a inch at a 100 meters with cheap chinese ammo. Haven't tried it with good projectiles. The chinese soft points are ok but might be a bit hard for smaller goats etc. They work alright on pigs.
I keep hearing that the steel ammo will wreck my gun. I'm not that worried. When it wears out or I run out of ammo I'll look at a Grendal or Blackout then.
I was also be keen on a 308 for more horsepower, but they are too heavy. My bother has a Ar10 and if I don't hide mine he will bugger off with it, just because it is so light compared with his.
