    AR15 Barrel nut heat.

I dont have much experience with AR's, just about finished on but have a quick question..

I am going to machine the barrel nut myself to use on a carbon fibre hand guard I am making. I cant be bothered anodising it so I have to isolate the aluminium from the CF.

I was thinking of using kapton film but the melting point is around 250 degC. I would assume it is not getting that hot around the barrel nut, more down the barrel?

Will be using for multigun so more than a couple shots every now and then.

Anyone have a guess how hot it gets around there. I am sure you know if it's up 200+ deg if you have touched it!

    Thanks.

What part# Kapton tape are you using? I always thought the melting point was much higher than 250. Wikipedia says its more like 400c, which would be ample. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kapton?wprov=sfsi1j

A lot of the tapes have max temps around 250-280 in their spec sheet. Could be the adhesive that gives way first.
