That's a 1x power red dot, not an ACOG x3-x4 scope.
Depends on your usage.
Hunting? 2-7 or 3-9
Service rifle x3 or x4 fixed
3 gun 1-4 or 1-6
Zombie Armageddon fantasy or plinking, then a red dot is fine.
If you can't afford an ACOG, then get the Burris 332, Vortex Spitfire or Lucid x4
the lucid P7 is the 4x version,
i use one on my service rifle, like it, clear glass, holds zero,
i wouldnt shoot any better with a acog.
Thank you for your replies
I have a p7 4x and it's good optic for the coin.
As has been said you need to be honest with yourself as to what your actually found to be using the rifle for.
Eg a red dot scope like you linked is cool- but not that practical for a lot of what people use ar15s for in NZ.
Do you want to shoot at the range? Bunnys? Goats? Small deer?
I have a vortex strike eagle 1-6 and find it fantastic for blasting goats
Running a Bushnell 2 x on the .22 AR
from GunzNZ
BUSHNELL AR Optics 2x MP Red Dot Sight
(but out of stock it seems)
Running a Nikko Stirling on the other S&W AR, but if I was to start again I'd get a Bushnell AR 4 - 18 x 40
from Reloaders
Bushnell AR Optics 4.5-18x40mm - Bushnell - Scopes - Optics - Reloaders Supplies Ltd
$250
For what it's worth the most practical scope I use is a 5-25 but I hardly use the upper end so would happily give that up for a slightly lower bottom end
I found the 1-4 and 1-6 variables, even with a 30mm tube just weren't as good for light gathering in low light with that smaller 24mm objective as a 2-7x33 or 3-9x40 1" tube.
So on my hunting AR, a 2-7 is far more useful.
Hey, tired to edit my post slightly but couldn't figure out how to, I'll mainly be using it for goats and dear.
I used to have the bushnell 1-4 30mm.
Which I thought was pretty good but I was just struggling a little bit at the 100m range.
Maybe the 4.5-18 x40 bushnell is the scope for me.
And excuse the photo of the red dot. I just assumed it was an acog style just by looking at it. Silly me.
I have a strike eagle on mine as well, mainly gets used for bombing up turkey's. The reticle is a little busy and takes a bit of getting used to though. It's all right for plopping a turkey in the middle and squeezing off a few rounds though.
Even managed to fluke shooting one on the wing from about 40-50m, made for a pretty choice crash landing.
Only photo I have on hand

Im also looking for a scope for my new AR i like the look of the BUSHNELL AR OPTICS 4.5-18X40MM 223 RETICLE i was thinking of spending about $500, off to the sika show next weekend maybe find a deal there, anything else i should be looking at ill be shooting rapid fire at the range up to 200 and a bit of hunting. thanks
The Lucid P7 is without a doubt the best scope I have ever purchased. Its used on a SR556 16" 1:9 twist piston AR. Here' s the no BS target at 100m with this 4 power scope:

It keeps this zero after disassembly and reassembly so really rapted with its performance
Depends on what you want to use it for I suppose. I had a 1-4 on mine, but found 4x too little mag for shooting hares and rabbits at 250m plus. So just fitted a 3-9x40 VX2 and it seems to be working well. I am missing the illuminated reticle in the 1-4 though for shooting goats and rabbits at close range or out of helicopter.
I use a Nikon P223 4-12 x 40 BDC. The glass is nice and clear (I use it out to 500 metres) and the BDC graduations are spot on.

Have an Atibal XP8 and it is awesome have taken a fallow at 270 yards and a magpie at 350 yards. Out to about 300 yards I could consistently hit a 6 inch plate (and most nearer the centre) just by shifting to use just the upper point at 100 the centre for 200 and the bottom point for 300 yards.
