Aralditing Talley mounts
Ive read numerous times about how people Araldite the Talley rings on to give better security to movement /loosening.
How exactly is that done ?
Do you just put a small amount of araldite between base of mount and the action , then tighten/ torque down the screws as usual ?
Do you use loctite as well or does the Araldite act as a loctite where the Araldite has been forced into the screw holes ?
Just dont want to muck it up , any hints or experience would be greatly appreciated.

Exactly as you have said, areldite just a small dot between bases and reciever to act as a bedding then I used blue locktite on the screws into the reciever, torque to manufacture specs

I have done this with Talleys and normal bases as well. I use just a little bit around the out side of the base so it doesn't get down the threaded holes. Once dried I use loctite 222 on the screws and tighten it all up.
All comes undone easily with a little bit of heat - I just take off scope, metal work out of stock and run some just off boiled water over it all and the epoxy just goes soft and sticky, clean up with nail polish remover.

Thanks guys , I suppose you make sure the surfaces are degreased and clean before puting the Araldite on .
-
Yes. Again I use nail polish remover (acetone).

I'd be hesitant to let the araldite dry before screwing the bases down @Dama dama. After all you are trying to mate up the two surfaces together with minimum tolerance.
-
Oh, good point. I tighten once epoxy on. Then when dried remove screws, use the 222 and screw back up. I do that to assure myself I haven't got epoxy down into the thread (although it probably doesn't matter to much?).
Good clarification @Mathias.

If you want to go OCD remember to mask around the area. Makes clean up easier .

I use a little acetone around the edge of the base to clean up and leave a nice bead.
Do this once all tightened down and epoxy still wet.

Make sure you don't spill acetone on anything plastic, it'll dis-colour it.
I've never bothered with adhesive or loctite, if I were going to do something I'd just use loctite and go for a relatively low strength one.
