As I previously noted, I wonder if this has been bent on purpose. The grip is also not symmetrical, just by a few mm but still obvious.
I started with a heat lamp, but only got to 35c, so went to a clamped heat gun held well off and got 60c .
Left the stock held and with pressure on the bend, two hours heat followed with two hour cooling and repeat all weekend.
This evening its straight enough for me, but will now let it rest until the weekend to see if it holds.
Was always going to relieve the barrel, re-bed and get the grip symmetrical.
Keeps me off the street corners and scaring old ladies.

Thank for the advice and conversations folks.
It's now straight enough, looks good and appears to be stable.

Stock is all finished now and looks great.
Rifle is now finished and reassembled.
If you look closely you can see the poor old girl has had a hard life.
I don't care for its returning less than 1" groups at 100m.
