Bergara barrel question

Hi all,

Picked up a "new and unfired" B14 barrel of yellow site. Turns out it has been drilled and tapped in three places.

Any reason anyone can think why? Surely not required to remove the barrel from the action.

Other than aesthetics and misleading a buyer, any accuracy issues this might cause? the tapping I can only guess front and rear sights ?
can't help with the copper fouling
I've owned a couple bergara's and they have all been great shooters if that's of any comfort

Surely those holes would have some effect on the harmonics of the Barrel? If you’ve got or know someone with a decent bore scope have a good look at the bore my b14 fouled up easily and developed fire cracking in the bore after little use.

That's all I can think of too, but really, on a B14 300WM? I doubt it.

I'm certainly enjoying my own B14 so far. Nice rifle for the price etc.

Holes for open sights

as far as "new and unfired" go's every rifle from every manufacturer is Proof tested, usually they will have 3 rounds or so fired thru the barrel.
Bergara have a test target in the box with the group shot, so they have possibly 5 or 6 rounds fired thru them.
so strictly not correct that it was "unfired" but probably was not fired by the owner before removing the barrel.
the holes, well as stated above, they are for the open sights, they would have been fitted from the factory, as it is an option Bergara do.
as for harmonics, well i don't want to sound rude but just how accurate a rifle did you want to build that a "take off" barrel was going to be good enough accuracy wise, until you factored in the potential accuracy loss from the disturbed harmonics created by 3 tiny holes that are drilled about 2mm into the barrel? for a hunting rifle, i really can't see it would make any appreciable difference

Totally fine. Bergara are a target barrel maker and those are indeed just the regular open sight holes. Dont bother with the truglow ones imo. They arent able to be set high enough for anybody's face with either the regular or thumbhole stock.

Couple of regular phillip's head shallow cut screws threadlocked in and youve got yourself a primo hunting barrel.

That green shit on the pull though looks to be ballistol or some other gummy oil like clr perhaps. Could also be a packing grease. Mine was off the shop floor so I'd say they cleaned the bore
