Thread: Bergara break down random poi shifts

Trying to get a load for the bergara going and it has been throwing me some curve-balls. Started with the rail coming lose its now epoxied and locktite on so that should be sweet.

Gun will be shooting accurately (it's a very accurate rig see the 5 shot group below) then randomly the zero/poi will shift so much that it is not even hitting the a4 sheet of paper. Last time I attributed it to the lose mounts but this time they are glued to fuck so shouldn't be an issue.

Pick it up give it a jiggle clip the for end on and off make sure the suppressor is sweet and she's back to shooting bug holes again at the same zero.

Could be the scope, second hand vx3 but then I doubt it would return to zero no?

Any ideas? Could for end contact cause that big of a poi shift? Same with a ever so slightly lose suppressor? (no baffle strike I pulled apart and checked.

All shooting done off a pack with care taken to load the for end in the same spot using a rear rest and light pressure via scope hold. Keen to kill some shit with it this weekend but not confident in the zero at the moment

try shoot it without the suppressor and see if it is throwing that odd shot like it is

bullets dont even need to strike the baffles to do what you are explaining just come real close and the cushion of air is disrupted causing it to change its direction

easier than swapping scopes, which Id do that next if all is not well

Inside of the foreend got any screws sticking out from the sling studs....

Or if plastic stock, check screw holds have not split round the circumference, possibly due to over torqueing. You will obviously have to remove the stock to do the examination.

They are just molded as part of the for end on the bergara, was my first thought, nothing obvious though, will have another look for contact points.

I think Greg Duley reviewed one and he noticed if he closed the action carefully it shot high. If he closed it forcefully it shot to the correct point of impact.

Cheers @stug that's handy info, the opening mech does occasionally gall so I'll do a bit of testing around that. It is shooting high so could be somthing similar. Could be loading the barrel.

Townsend Whelen and Mike Bellm say the same thing. How you shut the action affects the headspace which affects the flight of the bullet. Mike Bellm has some interesting info about headspace for break open actions on Youtube.

Sounds like a palava. It's a 308. I'll have a crack without the suppressor and a different scope to eliminate those variables then might have to go back to the shop for review

What bergara is it Nick? Only 2 I have seen have shot well and consistently out to 1km

ok,I picked up this bit...noone else commented on it....forend loaded in same manner and light pressure via scope hold....so I take it you shooting over a bag,but not using a bipod and pushing downwards on the scope???????

if so...try this......put off hand on the forestock,infront of your pack...or behind it holding action(works with BLR this way) if you are pushing downwards without a bipod to load,your results will vary as its only as consistant as the pack....
