    Best first firearm?

Hi there I have recently made a YouTube channel and i plan on making a video on the best first firearm. For many it’s understandably the 22lr (was for me) but after doing a lot of hunting on a very tight budget I’m looking at making the video on a single shot 12 gauge due to the fact how versatile they are from small game to to waterfowl to big game. They are cheap to run cheap to buy. Built like a brick shit house and very safe. I have taken deer and pigs with mine not to mention all the small stuff. The only down side I can think of is there limited range and the fact that you can’t legally use them on DOC land I would be interested to hear other people’s thoughts on the subject. Target audience being those who want to have a go at a bit of everything but who can’t afford a rifle for every scenario etc
My first deer was taken with a 22 and I imagine I’m not the only one. Just interested to hear others thoughts
    Cheers

I wouldn't recommend a semi-auto for a first firearm, better to learn good habits with a bolt action first.

Krico Model 300 22lr, dad bought it back in 1972 and I still have it. Shot for years with open sights before I was allowed to scope it.

I would have to put my vote down for a bolt action .22 magnum, small and cheap to run but a bit more power than a .22lr. I guess you have to ask what makes a good first firearm, IMO that's something which teaches you good gun safety in terms of how to handle a firearm while being well within your means to actually use it a lot so you can learn to shoot effectively. Age would also be a deciding factor and whether the firearm is intended to be a learning tool or something that just goes boom, with a small caliber bolt action you can place out targets like cans or bottles/caps and have some fun shooting them down. If you just need to put meat on the table that might not be so important in which case depending on the situation and where you have access to hunt a single shot 12g might be better, if it was me and i was on a budget i would take an sks or a bolt action norinco over a single shot 12g but that's down to what species i would be using it for and personal preference.
