Marlin semis (Model 60 etc) have a much better reputation for accuracy than 10/22s.

Or the 795 if you want to suppress it or have a drop out mag. Similar accuracy to the Thompson Centre R55 by the sounds of it, mine is around 0.5" at 50m (not with me operating it, but a target shooter) and I've seen a few better. Comes with the usual American anti-law-suit trigger, but they are easy enough to fix with a floppy shutter spring and a grub screw. The Marlin outsells the Ruger world wide by 3:2. Mags are easy enough to get but more expensive and not as easy as the Ruger. Takes apart similar to the Ruger and has last shot hold open. Not so much bling available, but it doesn't need a lot to make it shoot, Boyd's make stocks.

The thing about the 10-22 is that there are a shizzit load of after market parts and this means there is virtually no limit to how far you can go with improving them. Mine will shoot 1/2 MOA off bags with Eley Tenex etc but the only original parts remaining are the receiver and the bolt (which has been squared to the barrel). MacMillan STC stock, Volquartzen THM Tension barrel and cantilever mount, Jewell trigger.

If I had to do it again, I would probably just buy a complete Volquartzen or similar unit as I think these other manufacturers have taken the 10-22 concept much further now, and offer better receivers and barrel fit.

I dunno how accurate those marlins are but my 1022 is pritty bloody good(30mm at 30m with win subbies), light, great flush fitting mag. replacement mags are cheep, weaver and rimfire rail on the recever. all topped off with the worst trigger ruger could find

too easy to go passed really. just funny that I baught it new for cheeper than people ask for them second hand on trademe.

The guy in the shop reckoned it wasn't at the moment but it was on the cards.

Had a marlin 70 and 795 through the years. Both shot better than the rugers I have used.

Marlin 795 if you want a gun that doesn't need money to be spent on it, get a 10/22 if you love buying add on parts to make it shoot as well as the Marlin 795. Ican't think of anything the Ruger does better than the Marlin apart from suck up money on add on parts.

Mudgripz did a test on a range of rifles and the Marlin semis (60/795's) beat a lot of the bolt actions. Think he was averaging 0.59" with my 795 and 0.49" with his 60 at 50m, often grouping well below. This from a gun that was basically off the shelf but a home lightened trigger at basically no cost. I don't see the point in buying a rifle then spending 2-3 times it's original cost to make it do what it should in the first place. I spent ages on Rimfirecentral reading reviews and the majority of those that had a Ruger and a Marlin in the cabinet would grab the Marlin for a hunt or target shoot, but grab the Ruger for fun/plinking/blinging.

Hey Mate I need to know what you did to sort your trigger. I just put up with it but my son hates it. I was going to respring and use bedding compound to shorten up some tolerences. Keen to hear how you sorted yours.

It is friggin accurate with the factory trigger, lookng forward to see what it can do with an improved one.

    I followed this

Vote For David: Marlin Model 60 Trigger Job

Start at the bit with this picture

    http://i349.photobucket.com/albums/q...pAssembled.jpg

I only did the trigger return spring on mine. When it comes back I'll put a grub screw in to take out the initial movement that you'll see further down the page. Quick, easy, inexpensive.
