Do the 1422 have the 2 stage match triggers. A mate of mine bought an older 14xx with the 54 action and trigger is not as refined.

Awesome thread. No mention of Walther KKJs(I just bought one, but in 22 Hornet). Light, beautiful walnut stock and deep bluing. I have not shot mine yet, but everybody onlime seems to be happy with its accurate. I also have a Mauser MM410B - a true classic and a tack driver, but definitely not a match rifle.
@Dicko My 1422 in 22magnum has double set triggers and in 22lr has crisp single stage trigger

I take it nobody likes the Browning T bolt?
The anschutz with the fortner action would be the Bugatti of the 22’s.
I have a 1422 with a double set trigger.
And I think hunting and fishing have a couple of nice 222 anschutz on the shelf .
I don’t think you will find the consistency in accuracy from the T Bolt is as good as you get with a high grade Annie.
In rimfires the trigger is everything, which is why the 1700’s do so well. Also consistency in feeding from the mag and ejecting spent cases cleanly if you compete.

A rare but desirable American .22LR would be the R700 40XB Repeater, Sporter weight, front locking and out of the custom shop. Only made for a limited and would not come cheaply or often. Provided the inspiration for the Voodoo boys.
The only front locking lugs 22 that I know off was the kimber, most of the rest are rear locking lugs, unless you meant lugs ahead of the bolt which is now so commonly used as a locking lug on more or less cheap 22.s
Friwi,
I'm a bit in error, the 40XB rimfire has two opposite lugs half way along the bolt, that lock into the rear receiver ring. Similiar to the Vudoo rifle which copied Remington's design. So it does not use a single lug or the bolt handle to lock up.
