Binocular Weight - How important is it?

    Hi,

I am looking at getting my first set of binos. I am wanting to get a decent pair from the get-go.
After a bit of research, I am mainly looking at two - Vanguard 10.5x45 Endeavour or the Bushnell 10x42 Legend

My question is that the weight of them is significantly different - 760gm vs 640gm.
How important is the weight when looking at the binocular?
Am I looking at two poor options as far as binoculars are concerned?

    Cheers,
    Kumoe

Bit of weight will help keep them steady when glassing, lots of weight will mean you leave them behind rather than take them.

Don't know anything about the 2 bins listed, I own a pair of Alpens that I like and did not cost an arm and a leg, 400 from memory.

If you are hunting open tops or Alpine a lot then spend a lot as you will use them heaps.

    My 2 cents

    cheers

Well lighter binos mean less weight to carry, but on the other hand more weight is often due to good optics and stronger construction.

You will never ever regret owning a pair of Leica Ultravids for $800-900. I use mine all the time mainly because they are sooooo good and compact I tend to take them with me or I leave them in the car so handy. I take them on every holiday. When I'm on the tops I take my Leupold 10 power Gold Rings ... I wish I had spent a little (actually a lot) more and bought Geovids. Your eyes never get tired looking through their glass. I understand that Swarovski have a different gas in their lenses and they get a pink tinge particularly in alpine conditions.
To answer your question - 1st bino's = Leica Ultravids (for life)

I got a $40.00 pair with bak 7 prisims on trade me. they were light and good glass. once I got range finding fusions I left them in the ute for a second pair, or a light close range pair.... that is until some prick stole them from my truck.

the cheap pair was as good if not better than cheap bushnells iv used. just put a few on your watch list then weigh up there qualities and go for it.
