Define 'not too expensive'
Depends on your budget but take a look at Steiner or Nikon binoculars, both have good glass for the money.
Zen-Ray :)
I would say $200-350, that is a rough estimate.
That's not going to get you a 'good set' of binos unfortunately. 10 times that amount will get you something nice.
Keep saving, it's worth it.
I've got a set of Olympus binos .
Whops sent before if finished , anywho I am going to flick them on tard me . Well used condition but still very clear view $100 is what I think they should be worth they retailed for around $600 $700
Dont waste you $300. I got a $250 pair of leupolds they were shit. Then i was talked into getting a pair of $400 dollar minox by a salesman, they ended up being shit too. A mate and i were lookn for tahr he had a pair of leupod cascades and i had my minox i couldnt see them even with him pointing them out. So spend $500 min cascades are good.
I like my cascades. The 2grand plus binos are better but not 4x better.

My Zen-Rays (ED2) were $300 and are fantastic, that was a half price bargain though.
These ones should be under your $350 budget with shipping and exchange rate:
Zen Ray - CameraLand NY
Get a pair of leupold yosemity 8x30s the are just as good as some of the expensive ones
i have seen the cascades and a mate has got a pair which are good, I might wait and save up for a pair of those.
I had a set of Leupold Yosemity's, lost them in the scrub one day. I couldn't afford much, so got some Bushnell H2O's 8x42 roof mount.- about $240
They seem ok. I've found mobs of Tahr, Chamois and hare with them. They work well, and it wont be the end of the world of I lose or smash them.
+1, mine serve me well, there seem to be too many on here who poo poo certain things just because they are cheap, some low priced things are total shit for sure, but the yosemites were recommened to me by a couple of guys who also have far more expensive binos, and really rated the Yosemites for the $200 you pay for them.
One of my hunting mates has the $500 leupolds, and back to back test in field i cant see any difference, other than his are larger and heavier.
Where did you hear that? The warranty info on their website says nothing about it: Warranty Information
I don't think they have an NZ agent/distributor any more as they sell direct, but thats something totally different. I guess a bit more hassle/cost if you have to send it back to them yourself though.
Nikon Monarch 10x42, check for specials from theopticzone.com, bhphotovideo.com, opticsplanet.com etc.
I ordered a pair of Vanguard endeavour 10.5x45 ed binos and they just arrived . I expected them to be good after winning numerous awards but Im blown away with them for $590 delivered, they are easily on par with my brothers leica trinovids . For the money they cant be beat!
Vanguard endeavours ed Attachment 13895
Saw those $595.00 from Kiwi Binocs.. 10.5 x 45 Vanguard Endeavour -Kiwi Binoculars
Maybe well worth looking at. Look small as well.. Good to get feedback on sort of unknown branded stuff ..

Star Trek Binos cool as ...$10 bucks and a box of piss and I ll take them he he .. I am actually looking for some but these look a little outside temporary budget ..
A box of piss is outside my budget at the moment!!! Still haven't got my wagon running and its pissing me off!!
another vote for zen ray. I have the ed3 and they were demo model. got it from cameraland ny. check out the drop down bar at the top of the page for the demo models I got mine a bit cheaper than zen ray direct prices
Awaiting founds!! I have put the rejo on hold and parked it up and got a shitty little runabout till I get it going.
Fingers crossed I will have it going before xmas.
Im Being pig headed and refusing to borrow the money. I hate debt!
You can have my Yosemites for a box of speights. So $45 should cover postage and a box of piss

Glass is good.
One of the eyecups are a bit bung but still functional. I have my mates cascades here too and quickly compared them. Cascades brighter not affected by looking into sunset where Yosemites were. I dont know the other brands but cascades are good.
Check out Redfields and see what you think
I have Leupold Cascades. Good "entry level" and good enough for me. If I hunted the big country, I would check out the more upmarket models. It all depends on where and how you hunt.
I have a pair of bushnell H20 10x42s. Retail for $275 and do the job fine. Clear and robust. Not great in low light but what do you expect for the price.
The next step up the bushnell legend hds are fuckin mint for the money. We were watching goats at about 200 meters on dark and could still see them after dark when we could onky make the silhouette of the truck 30 meters away by eye
value for money ya cant beat the cascades.
I have sent mine away twice as i used to be a bit hard on gear and both times for a hundy fifty come back brand new
Ya cant beat that and not even bad optics for the loot!
I look after my zeiss rf binos quite a bit better mind you!
Whats value for money about paying $599 for a entry level pair of leupold binoculars?? Goes to show how effective leupold & bushnells marketing is . Trust me there are way better value optics out there.

Yeah mate got them from here Kiwi Binoculars, Monoculars, Spotting Scopes, Telescopes and Tripods
They were really good to deal with.
Are those 8x30 steiners advertised in h&f any good?
