I want to reduce the bulk and weight of shit I carry in my chest pac (a Sabre chest pack). No need for big binos and a thermal.
A cheap compact option are the Vortex Diamondback HD 8x28. $313 our money inc gst off Amazon.
Any comments or feedback.

Restraint is the better part of dignity. Don't justify getting even. Do not do unto others as they do unto you if it will cause harm.
$266.58 for me off amazon, gst doesn't apply and free shipping.
Not quite answering your question, but I have the Vortex Diamondbacks in 10x42 and some older 8x30 Nikon Monarchs that my mate gave me. I take the Monarchs with me more often as I can see just as much with them and they're lighter than the Vortex.

I really want to say just treat yourself to some Leica 10x25 or the likes (100 grams lighter as well) but if all you want to do is just see that’s it’s in fact a deer/pig, these will work sweet. My cousin has a pair in his glovebox for scouting round duck shooting time.

Zeiss Terra 8x32's working nicely for me, were a bit cheaper 3 years ago and I think I got them for a smidge over $700. nudging $900 now in some places, probably out of reach. The vortex ones should definitely get the job done, be interesting to know how they go on last light.
"O Great Guru what projectile should I use in my .308?" To which the guru replied, "It doesn't matter."

I have a set of the 8x28 diamondback hd. I bought them from Amazon shortly after picking up my thermal monocular . I got them to lighten up for bigger walks and for my young son to use. I also use a sabre chest rig. They work pretty well for their size are clear enough and comfortable to use. Nothing amazing though. They feel pretty solid. I take them for slips and river flats but they won’t replace my 10x40 leupolds for longer glassing sessions. My son uses them with ease and I keep them in the centre console when not out on a hunt.
At the time I also looked through minox x-lite 10x26 and thought they were comparable.
I would buy them again . I paid $215.
