Thread: Blaser owners question

Here is a question for all you knowledgeable Blaser owners.

When selling a Blaser barrel do you need a police permit from the purchaser ?
As the serial number for the rifle is on the barrel ... no receiver as per conventional rifles.

Im saying "Yes you do need a permit to procure" but just wondered if anyone has discussed this with an ( intelligent ) police arms officer ... and not one who is making it up as he goes along!

Logically the serial number for the BARREL is on the barrel as no clever german would put a serial number for the rifle on the bit designed to be readily swapped out for another.

You are essentially selling a pipe.

Both barrels I bought I was never asked to provide FAL proof, I doubt Stager asks for it when they sell one. its a bit like buying reloading components, you don't need a licence to buy them but you need one once you put them together to become a bullet.

I've bought a barrel and wasn't asked for FAL and equally I have sold without asking either, to me it's a part of, it doesn't work with out the trigger

Ah yes but the logical conclusion to that argument is that if you sell a rifle without ... say a trigger or bolt it doesn't need a FAL !

Wait till they realise the barrel is an "upper" and the action is a "lower" then the fun will start

But its still a rifle with no bolt or trigger. You dont need a FAL for parts

Never had to show FAL or with any barrels ive bought.

But it is still your choice to request confirmation.

I'm no expert but I read some interesting information on the Police Website a couple of months ago and my take on this discussion is that no FAL is required to buy and sell barrels. From a police perspective it seems the Receiver and Action are the "gun" and everything that hangs off that part is considered to be an accessory. The logic being that the firearm is nothing but a collection of inert parts which requires the Action in order to become a weapon.

The above is a brief summary of the information on the Police Website so please don't reply to this post with arguments and symantics over what is and isn't a firearm or what you can and can't do with an Action without a barrel... you don't need to convince me... go and read the information on the website and it will explain the situation in a clear and concise way as only legal documents can.

Once you've read the information - if I'm wrong, please let me know.

It is the action that is deemed to be the firearm. It can be devoid of barrel, trigger, stock, and probably the bolt but the bit remaining is the "firearm". If for example you ever buy a bare Barnard action you will be required to present your FAL.

I am sure this has been a previous thread/discussion.
