    Bore Snake Usage

Was given brand new bore snake to suit 30 cal. Still in packet but no instructions. Its doh obvious which end goes first and aslo that you
start from the breach and pull out.
What chemicals if any do people use on the thing? Itll be used on stainless barrell.
Do you soak it in the chemicals first?

Thanks in advance with any experiences or how you use them ..

I just use mine without chemicals and then finish up with a lightly oiled swab.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!

as above. they are good for getting the majority of powder out when you are feeling lazy.

they are not a total solution, still need to have a powder solvent and occasionally a copper solvent thru on a patch/brush ect and a bore preserver once its clean

they are great for getting the oil out of the barrel before shooting too,

side note if they have a brush inside them donot under any circumstances try to pull it back once its half way thru

So as a guidline how many rounds would you fire before you decided it needed the full out clean... ie :My .17 starts going off slightly after round 5 - 6 boxes of ammo so 300 or so rounds and give it minor clean (bore only)
its good for another 3 boxes ammo then do a major ie solvent wash out in bath etc so I get up to 600 rounds between major cleans.
.308 I dare say you wont acheive that but none of my mates have a great deal of knowledge on this topic. Cheers for your help..

depends on the caliber and how anal you are. I do it maby twice a year for my hunting rifle which id probably use 60-80 shots thru each year
its a 243 with a TF barrel so dusnt tend to copper up that hard out

it dose really depend on the caliber and barrel quality

powder solvent every time after im finished shooting.

Soak barrel with kero and run your snake thru it. Then before hunting run a clean rag thru it. Put your gun barrel down when you put it away.
