    Boredom and Insomnia

This is what happens when you suffer from both.

Will take some better photos when it finishes drying and will rub it down with some scotch brite to take the sharp edges off. Be interesting to see what it looks like in natural light as the lighting in my garage is terrible.

Feel free to post any photos you have of firearms you have that aren't the normal evil black sticks of doom.

Interesting, I know nothing about painting rifles but have one that I'd like to paint.

What paints / method did you use because I see that there are several different types of surfaces there. Also, how does one avoid the paint sealing the turret caps shut? Sorry about the million questions but I'm a sponge here... saturate me.

Niblet, if you ever put that rifle down somewhere in the bush, you're going to have a hell of a time finding it again

Haha I too know nothing about painting. It's just the plastikote spray can paint. Meant to be able to peel it off I think?
I used meths to clean it, masked the turret markings, mag ring, lenses, mag hole, ejection port and muzzle.
Basically start with the lightest colour and go lighter to darker, much easier to make it dark than light. I just used some fern leafs and flaxy like plant from the garden and that netting like stuff in photo to try ghost a different pattern in.

Was more just a test run to see if I wanted to do it to any of my more expensive rifles. If I decide to do it again I would most likely use something like duracoat unless I can find a better range of colours, couldn't even find TAN FFS, hence the slightly less impressive grey.

Be a success if that's the case

Figured it would be slightly more entertaining than mowing the lawns or vacuuming.

some years ago I painted up a spare rifle. Friend borrowed it as we had a block in woodhill. He shot a pig and then put the rifle down. Took him 10minutes to find the thing again. So you do need to be careful.

Yes ... I'd also be interested as I want to paint one of my plastic stocks in Flat Dark Earth. What prep work do you do the the surface and what brand/type of paint do you use?

I just rubbed with scotch Brite to give a little bit of traction and cleaned with meths to degrease it.
I just used spray paint as it's cheap and easy to change. Plus when it eventually starts to wear it looks even better.
@Norway has a good video of how to do it using duracoat. I wish mine was a little darker. Proper tan would have achieved this so will try a proper paint shop over mitre10 next time.

I did the .308. My logic is when the paint starts fading and falling off its time for a new color change

Nibblet if you are bored you should be shooting that big boom stick of yours.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!
