    boretech eliminator

I use boretech eliminator for barrel cleaning ,have done for some time . I am no expert but believe it works well. My question is, is it suitable to leave in barrel as a rust preventative . I use in Stainless and blued rifles. A rifle may sit in safe for 6 months or a couple weeks after cleaning . In the past i have usually put them away after running a oily patch. never had any real problems but i dont want to have to clean it again before using , 2 or 3 dry patches fine.
Just lazy really -looking for the quickest easiest cleanest method. Cheers

Says on the bottle it’s suitable as a rust preventative for long term storage. Completely up to you how you remove it before use but I personally wouldn’t take any meaningful shots on a clean/patched out barrel.

Frank Green from Bartlein barrels says not to, supposedly it’s water based and he has seen it cause corrosion.

He recommends just using Hoppes no9 for general carbon cleaning, after cleaning just run a wet patch of Hoppes 9 through and leave that in fir rust preventative, then just a few dry patches to clean it out before shooting.

I’m not usually one to just follow what one person says, but he (Frank) has been very open about what he thinks is best and what issues he regularly sees, and Bartlein barrels are some of the best in the world.

Patch it with hoppes 9 until patchs come clean, then one more fresh hoppes & leave rifle muzzle down in safe.
Then a wet patch hoppes & a couple dry patches, all clean shes ready to shoot. Always done that. Quite often when patching out to shoot, I get small amounts of copper & carbon so hoppes is working away while stored, as well as stopping rust.

    Yeah thats what I do.

I've got to say I'm impressed with Hoppes 9s carbon removing ability. I always found that my muzzle brake suppressor mounts were a pain to clean (baked on carbon). Hoppes 9 cleaned them up way quicker and easier than Boretech C4.

Eliminator is very good at eating up copper but does bugger all to carbon, especially the hard stuff in the first 250mm of the barrel.

I'll say it again- if you have significant carbon in the throat, only abrasives like Autosol or JBs is going to shift it. I'm an F-Open shooter and get through -1000s- of rounds annually and therefore barrels. The borescope tells the story, patches really nothing when it comes to carbon.

My experience matches Frank Green's - I pitted two rifle bores by using Eliminator as a rust preventative.

I still use Eliminator for cleaning sometimes, but always finish with Corrosion-X followed by a dry patch before storage.

I wouldn't doesn't strike me as a product that would be very good at rust prevention (even though it says so on the label) remember NZ climate is extremely hard on firearms
Unlike where the product is made/tested

If you're trying to save money on cleaning products
You probably have something lying around, new clean car engine oil, for example, is great or WD-40, ok at a pinch
If you're going to buy gun oil, the best is found, which is readily available, is eezox

This has also been my experience.

I've tried all the trendy cleaning products over the years, but I keep going back to good old Hoppes No. 9 for all my cleaning.

Posted this in the past https://dayattherange.com/gun-care-product-evaluation/ Still the best review I have seen on these products. Unfortunatlely some of the best ones are unavailabel in NZ.

    Boretech carbon remover is excellent.

Try to clean your rifle with hoppes, till you think you have it clean. Then use the boretech carbon remover...

That said the only product I would leave inside any barrel for extended periods of time is oil.

    Well your intuition is wrong.

A quick search will reveal several comprehensive tests of anticorrosive options relevant to firearms. Corrosion X is always right up there in that regard
