Thread: Browning feather trigger

Hi Guys anyone had any luck lightening there browning feather trigger iv got one here & the trigger is pretty heavy even when adjusted to as light as it can go , I did a bit of a google search this is what I can up with , anyone tried this ?

Iv e mailed them to see if the spring fits the feather trigger model

Looks good. It would make me nervous ruining the spring to take it out, but it looks like a good solution. I've just bought a stainless xbolt and if the trigger is too hard it might be a solution for me. How about you try it first @Boaraxa? In fact, buy 2. If it works I will buy the spare one. If it doesn't, throw the second one in the bin

Not an entirely silly idea im sure there are a good few x bolt shooters here , I could order a few kits in & charge double to you guys & get my spring free , I had a shooting session last week thought id better confirm zero,s & brush up on the skill,s with the roar just around the corner first with the mauser which is awesome then the browning must say I completely pulled the first couple of shots the trigger seemed so heavy I got better with practice but defiantly room for improvement , I shall await mcarbo,s reply .

Yeah the feather light trigger is anything but light eh!!

I'm interested in a new spring, $16USD freight tho for a tiny spring... anyone interested in a group buy to bring freight cost down?

I'm sure there's been plenty of others on here do this but maybe it's of help anyway. Have had 3 X-Bolt triggers modified by a local part-time gunsmith with very good results, takes around 30-40 mins for $65. Remove trigger from action, disassemble, remove original spring and replace with lighter spring cut from commercial spring stock of same diameter, polish sear and contacting face. Reassembly - reverse process. Be sure to rigorously check trigger security with cocked action prior to loading live ammunition in the chamber. Care must be taken when polishing the sear and contacting faces as this will also probably alter trigger pull weight and feel. You may have to do this more than once to get the desired result, better to repeat process than got too far in one step. When disassembling the trigger don't be fooled by slots in the heads of the pivot pins, they are just marks left by the tooling during manufacture when the head of the pin is upset to maintain retention when assembled, they are not screw slots.
Be sure to rigorously check trigger security with cocked action prior to loading live ammunition in the chamber. If you're not comfortable doing this yourself it's not going to break the bank getting a professional to do it.

I use a Browning Mountain Ti with currently a Swarovski Z8i 1.7-13.3x42 in 7 mm WSM.
Just over 6.5 lb good to go.
140 gr Nosler AccuBond home load doing 3200 fps almost in the same hole 3 shots at 100 yards.
Used it on the range out to 700 yards out shoots me checking the bullet drop but would not recommend it as a range rifle as the barrel gets rather warm no issue for my hunting.

Issues in the last 9 years.
Damaged crown smashed the muzzle on a rock jumping about on the tops, purchased a re-crowning kit shoots like new again.
Trigger was a bit heavy even when adjusted replaced the trigger return spring with a section of spring from a pen instant 2 lb crisp trigger 8 years ago.
Bolted the rifle to a Nightforce NXS felt like the scope doubled the weight and bulk of the set up.
Soft touch camo stock finish melts if you have Deet on your hands.

Great rifle easy trigger fix no plans to change.

So the new spring arrived yesterday @Tahr @Hunty1 , watched the youtube vid to refresh the memory I didn't quite have the tools they recommended but pretty close , it looks a little easier in the vid to how it actually is I struggled a little getting my small screw driver to get under a coil to get it out but when I managed to get it on the tip of the screw driver it came out a lot better I didn't need to use plyers it kind of popped out & can confirm its a much lighter pull I don't have a gauge but gestamate would be its probably halved it , my trigger is adjustable so il have more of a play tomorrow , it was pretty straight forward I think shops that stock browning rifles should have these springs in store , cheap & pretty easy upgrade .

Pleased to hear, I hope my spring should be here this week with luck. After a bit of googling its apparently easiest to lift the spring off the dedent on the sear rather than pull down like in their youtube vid... sound like you found that too? Cheers for the update.

I hear you about keeping parts but in Kiwiland we just don't. In the past I have wanted/needed/required bits for several of my guns for various reasons, notably a browning A5 and usually the only bits you can get are off old firearms.
When you look online they are plentiful and cheap but no-one wants to keep stock obviously. The export limitations of certain parts out of the US and now the fact you can have issues bringing in gun bits through NZ customs can make it a PITA.

Spring arrived today, 5min job to install.

Trigger feels way better, at a guess I've got it set at a crisp 2pounds or so... have to get to the range to see if it makes a difference to my shooting.

Definitely appear to be a good cheap and easy upgrade.
